Help 3hours and 30 minutes and already 40% battery

My old phones would give me several days on a single charge. This phone gives me half a day. Sure, I'm using the phone more (non-voice-wise) than previous phones, but the battery is rated to be much bigger than my past phones. Oh well, the firmware update apparently addresses the crappy battery, but I haven't applied it yet.

Don't expect any Android device to give you what battery life we used to get on our "dumb phones" from the past. ;)

Processors have become huge and fast, requiring more resources just to run things normally. Thank heaven for "sleep mode," etc. Otherwise I'd probably see about four hours between charges. :D

Once you adapt the mindset that these are no longer phones, but actually computers, than you'll come to accept it. It is what it is, thats just the nature of the beast.

The quad cores coming up should rock. Especially the one with the 5th core that is the sole core running when in standby. Somebody was using their noggin on that one!! Great article on it here.

Yeah, I agree. Basically, battery technology has not kept up with process technology. I wish there was a way to underclock the processor when it's not doing anything. I guess if rooted, it might be possible. I didn't root my phone.

Today, I didn't use my phone for anything other than heavy texting. I maybe did a few min. of talking, web surfing, and game playing (total of less than 15 min. combined). But just the heavy texting depleted my battery from 100% to 10% in 8 hours. I got it on the charger and will head out when it hits 50% so that I have enough juice for tonight while I'm at the bars. :D

According to the "System Panel" app I have installed, very frequently the phone runs on only one core, and that one throttles back to about 300MHz depending on what it is doing.

I did root the phone, but only to get Titanium Backup and Adfree to work (both do very nicely) I also "froze" a number of the apps based on material I found on this forum. I normally leave WIFI turned off, and I have set the phone to CDMA mode only. I am not sure if battery life improved after I rooted it, but it seemed to, at least a little.

Still, my battery life is all over the map, depending on what I am doing. When I listen to internet radio with Doubletwist using Blue Tooth to play through my car speakers, the battery goes down pretty fast. Fortunately, I discovered that turning off USB debugging allowed the car USB connection to charge the phone, so that isn't as painful as before. If I just let the phone rest my pocket, it lasts a good long time (all day.)

I wish I didn't need to be concerned about the battery life, but that is weakest link in most of our technology today (including the cars) so until they figure out a way to get higher energy density storage for batteries, we will probably all gripe about the poor performance of the devices.:(

I updated my firmware OTA this morning, so for the rest of the week and this weekend, I expect to use my phone in the normal manner and I'll report on how the battery life is improved, which just about everyone says the firmware update addresses.

Alright, glad you finally got the update you wanted :p. look forward to hearing about your battery life.

My battery life has been less frequent I fear that there is a rogue app using the battery, but who knows.

My battery life has drastically improved. 60% remaining after 14 hours!!! I was lucky to make it 8 - 10 hours prior to the update so I'm extremely happy.

I gave my phone a full recharge last night after I updated the firmware yesterday morning. I've been using my phone for some texting, light surfing, and maybe 45 min. of a processor-intensive game (Drag Racing Premium). No voice calls either. It's already down to 60% in just 3+ hours. So my battery unfortunately does not seem to be improved. But I'm optimistic that standby time will be greatly improved since the phone is no longer wasting battery doing crap like "cell standby" and "phone idle", which were around 50% before the update and now 5% post-update.
