4.0.3 eta?

The only bloatware on the phone are two apps; the My Verzion one and another one I can't seem to even remember right now. Both of those can be disabled. I'm not sure about tethering, but I'm pretty sure that is done on the account level. As far as I know all the root apps do is get around how it connects.

I'm not saying that I'm 100% right, however VZW didn't customize the OS. They simply added 2 apps to the system apps. I don't see Google holding up an update for the Nexus because a VZW app doesn't work. Hell VZW still hasn't even gotten the NFL App to work on the phone yet.
 
Why does it take Verizon so long to port their apps? All the other app devs that just do this in their spare time seem to have done fine with making their apps ICS compatible.

the 4.0.3 Roms that are available don't have the updated CDMA and LTE radios that were/are suppose to be in the next update. That is why i haven't tried one yet. I'm probably going to stay on stock (except for the custom kernals) until the next OTA drops that will have the updated radios. Also not to mention any 4.0.3 Roms that are out right now may have to be altered to work with the next ota that comes out.

I may be wrong on the apps/customization part, but if you don't think they have approval (say) of whether or not an official handset OS gets pushed to devices using their pipes, show me the contract... Seriously, large conservative companies like Verizon don't have that much tolerance for internally unassessed risk to their infrastructure.
 
Well there's a rom that states it's based off the official 4.0.3 VZW OTA on XDA already.

Could happen anywhere from now to about about 10 months from now (citing the Droid Charge GB update :D:D).

Ug....and I was not going to get another Samsung/Verizon combo phone after the Fascinate and the Charge.......hope I didn't make a mistake with the Nexus.

Yup I had a charge, and had problems and replacements.

I'm happy with the SGN right now, it's working very well for me, and it's so much easier to look at than the bionic they swapped me for.

I think we are all waiting for an update, and fast.... at least before Jan 15th.

Maybe I just need to have the store hold a RAZR for me on the 14th just in case :D:D

I would lose:
nfc/google wallet
larger screen
removeable battery
better camera (subjective)
ICS features (interface, better voice recognition, multitask menu/swipe)
Cool folders
Bluetooth that works every time compared to friends with RAZR and similar devices

There's probably more, I just need to stop thinking about it right now :D:D

My friend has a Razr and his connectivity is about the same as my Nexus....and actually a little worse. If Verizon would just get their 4g towers working then I could tell if my connectivity issues are the phone or their "Most Reliable 4g Network"

There's a few things at play. If your phone loses signal, or has a very poor signal, could suffer from a retry-reauthenticate problem, and the phone could be programmed in a way that a proper retry or retries doesn't happen (no type of signal indicator, airplane mode toggle usually fixes). You will retain your 1x (voice) connection.

I don't think that any 4G LTE phone has this down properly yet as to the magic of how to make it better. It would be akin to barely seeing 4G, let's keep trying 4G.... forget that 3G signal that's prime! Most of us classed this as "data stalls", either stationary or moving, and in different markets.

Let's hope the official 4.0.3 fixes some of these symptoms that people are seeing. Honestly, I barely get it. Used to get it with my Droid Charge and Bionic consistently.
 
I've just booted my phone and now it says "Downloading" in big green letters. This is a stock unit. I don't know if this is an update or my gnex is flaky. I don't recall giving permission for an update.

Anybody else got this going on?

EDIT: OK I'm in and it says 4.0.2 Weird. It was set in airplane mode when I shut it off and when it came back up.

Hold power down to shut it off or pull the battery.

When you hit the power button make sure you are not hitting the volume buttons :D:D

I'm on stock 4.0.2 but you can easily flash the new 4.0.3 radios. I did today because I saw some people (Steven I think) post that he was getting a better dB and signal. Gave it about 5 hours and saw no difference so just flashed back to the 4.0.2 stock radios.

My understanding of the process is that Google finishes the update gives it to the carrier for some quick network testing then Google pushes the update to our phones not Verizon. I can confirm that Verizon isn't responsible for updating these phones OTA or has any say on what updates are pushed when. How? Because when I first got my Nexus at the store, I got to play with it for about 15-20 mins while the reps were busy with other customers. While I was playing with it, I connected it to their local WiFi network (not a MiFi, a commercial internet service they had so it wasn't on Verizons network). About 5-10 mins after having it on WiFi, I received the new 4.0.2 update. The phone had not been activated on the carrier at that point and didn't even have a SIM card in it. So the phone had to have got the update directly from Google since it was in no way on Verizons network.

Hope that clears things up a bit.

Well, that's for that update. It doesn't mean that other updates won't come from VZW. We simply don't have enough data points with one update to say anything conclusively.

True, but it's only logical to assume that if that's how the update gets pushed the first time, that they would do the same for future updates.

Personally, I'm really hoping for a fix for the multi-touch issues. They have been getting really intrusive for me recently when playing various games (makes them pretty much un-playable to be honest). Here's hoping for an improvement in 4.0.3 / 4.1...

Try locking and unlocking the screen when the issue happens, fixes it for me in GTA III
