@drex
Oooo! Then maybe Motorola will finally unlock the @#$#%^ boot loader if not in this phone but maybe in future phones.
That borked update (and the removal of root for months, preventing the community from fixing it themselves) is what finally pushed me to buy a Photon. Even though root was finally achieved again about the same time the MoPho went on sale, I was sort of done with my Evo even though I still liked it, bugs and all.
As for the MoPho getting ICS, the current official word from Motorola is we will get it in Q4 (which means October or later). Is that disappointing? Sure. Is it the end of the world? Not by a long shot, the MoPho is a great phone with 2.3 (and there are always roms).
Oh, and unless if you have an official link saying the MoPho will not be getting ICS, please stop stating that as fact. Opinion is one thing, but misinformation doesn't help anybody.
Even with Google's claim that they'll leave Motorola's "hardware" division separate, I have a feeling that they'll throw their weight around a little more when it comes to the software.
Moto Blur, even the toned down version the more recent Motorola phones received (including our MoPho), sucks so much that I can't see any reason for Google to tell the Motorola folks to keep the UI Vanilla and/or Google will assert their influence to come up with a whole new UI that would incorporate the best of both worlds.
I have no problems with the current MotoBlur, it seems pretty bland which I like. Not really intrusive and allows for a lot of customization.
Has there been any substantial follow up with facts to this thread, or is it like his soak test from January, just more unsubstantiated spam ?
I just spent 2 hours arguing with motorola agents. Is it a coincidence that the razar droid max wich are all Verizon phones are getting the updated 1st? Oh and the mopho came out a little over a year ago. Ics came out in november. That ohone is more than capable of getting ics!
To hell with ICS, when is the Photon going to get Jelly Bean?
Heck, by the time Photon gets ICS, Krispy Kreme or Lollypop will be out.
I don't mind, either way, but I agree that it'd be nice to just see a jump to Jelly Bean, instead of ICS. Jelly Bean is only an incremental update from ICS, but the small changes I saw at the Google I/O keynote (streamed)...awesome.
I'm taking my last 1 year upgrade this summer and I'm not sure which device I'll be choosing. Great thing is, I'll still be keeping my MoPho as a dedicated media player and a dedicated International Phone for whenever I travel.
Motorola is not the speediest of the manufacturers with updates, so I'm not surprised it's taking a long time before the Photon gets an update. It would be nice to see 4.1 instead of 4.0, but I'm not holding my breath. At this point, I'm really hoping we see a Moto Nexus come out at the end of this year, one that is updated directly by Google. I'm growing a little weary of the delays that OEMs and the carriers suffer from in regard to Android updates. Even the poor Nexus S 4G took months to get ICS, what's up with that?*
*I'm assuming it had something to do with wimax, but that's still ridiculous. Hopefully LTE won't present that problem.
In all honesty, I'd much rather have slow, but almost flawless updates than the nightmare I had with my EVO all over. I was going nuts over that one. I did learn a valuable lesson with that one though. That was to never do an update right off the bat when they come out. Always wait until you read several reviews of it by different posters and see what's going on before updating.
and with the latest soak test
screw that..i dont think ill be a guinea pig again..
dunno if its from the newish update or what....
but i think my wifi radio has gone caput...3g is getting worse by the day...and 4g is hit and miss as always...
going into the store tomorrow, to have it checked
