4.04 for skyrocket now on Kies

I'm having a problem with Kies - I downloaded it and it said it had an update, which I did. After giving it my admin password it started the Kies update but now is stuck at 100% and has been like this for the past 15 minutes. I can't even start to switch to ICS!

I've attached a screenshot - my computer is a MBA.

This is incredibly frustrating - any help would be appreciated. I have already tried uninstalling Kies multiple times.

Updated yesterday and I'm VERY pleased. It went very smoothly. The only hiccup was with Kies. I wasn't able to backup with it. Kept failing, but I went ahead and upgraded with no loss of anything. Of course I had to reset alot of things, but that was not a problem

Downloaded Kies, then installed Kies update. But after auto restart, I plugged USB and connected to my phone and...nothing, didn't detect phone, only phone was charging. After several tries, I restarted both laptop and phone. Then, the drivers were installed and it finally detected my phone and notified me of ICS update.

Whole install process was problem-free, but it was somewhat confusing how there were instructions to press "OK", but it would continue download/install process automatically even if I didn't press anything. Once completed, I left USB connected and was afraid that I lost all my apps, games, etc. and it even informed me that my App2SD application was incompatible. But luckily, all was okay when I disconnected the USB cord. Games still had my saved games and all apps I tested were working properly, only downside was I had to move shortcuts to each screen.

Some misc. things I discovered so far in the last few hours:

- Default music player somehow merged with my MixZing play list, no songs were on any of the playlists. Not a big deal, just renamed playlists (removed MixZing from title) and added songs.

- My WiFi and BT disconnect less often (previously it happened several times a day, very irritating). It still happened a couple of times today, but either it's improved a little through this update, improved when I changed settings in Easy Battery Saver/Easy Task Killer apps, or a combination of all of these.

- When I "force close" an app in the Application Monitor screen, I don't like the warning that pops up every time I manually close an app. It didn't do this before. An inconvenience that is somewhat annoying.

- There's some lag-time between actions, from closing an app to pressing home button, etc. I don't recall it being much of a problem before, I may get used to the slight hesitation, but can already tell that this will need some updating to fix.

- Lastly, hope other updates in the future are OTA from now on, I'm not a fan of using Kies and am very tempted in uninstalling it soon.

The sticky at the top of the forum states "So if you do not have the international version do not flash the official ICS release as it will likely brick your phone." How do I know if I have the international edition or not?

I downloaded ICS via Kies last night and so far it is ok. I did notice an overall slowness to everything but not a big issue to me. The main thing that I don't like is the preview screen for the stock email. It is very hard to read because the font is way too light. I did not have this problem with ginerbread. Maybe there is a way to adjust this.

When I open up an actual email it looks fine, but in the preview screen it is very hard to read.

Being a bit nervous due to having been burnt previously by a major update like this, I think I'll wait until the first follow-on OTA update is available before taking the plunge.

Updated to ICS with no issues so far. One benefit to the upgrade, however, Neutron MP music player now works without skipping. It was unusable under 2.3.6.

i downloaded ICS a few days back and initially had some really bad battery drain issues

i did a factory reset this morning and wanted to test my battery on stand by with the wifi off and the gps on. these are the settings i use when not tethered to a cord and wifi. i set my alarm on my tablet and my skyrocket after one hour of being asleep was still at 100%. wow. i have done other tests like this in the past, but i have never seen anything like this.

i am using go launcher, widget locker with the new tesla alerts, simi clock, fancy weather widget full screen, widetsoid 1x1 wifi toggle and circle battery widget. i will admit that i cut back on apps when i went to google play after the reset. but i do have all of the basic apps i need for my everyday use.

i also have the basic juice defender enabled and the settings are on balanced. my phone is unrooted.

edit

just did another test with the "smart screen off pro" app running. after one hour on stand by, i am down to 95% of battery.

gonna recharge and uninstall this app to get one more peek at the ICS battery after being used for a few days and several charge.

edit

just ran my phone on wifi standby for 6hrs and 35min same apps running as before and have 94% of battery. the only activity was openning up phone quickly for one text. i did not respond

I have tried literally a 100 times to download the update via Kies, even at 1:00 am. The farthest it got is 41% before timing out. It times out every time! I have reinstalled Kies, reset my phone, installed Kies on another computer, nothing works. My Internet connection is between 5 and 7 mbs. Any thoughts?

Just got off the phone with Samsung support after trying chat, what a waste of time. How can a company that makes such great hardware make downloading a file so difficult. Here is the chat transcript:

So, I'm on a rooted GB. All the forums and blog posts say wait for pre-rooted ICS. However, what if I'm willing to give up on root? Can I update and just lose my root? I assume I can then re-root if/when I find an appropriate root capability for ICS. Or should I unroot my GB first?
