Root [4/09/13] CM9 for HTC Merge [Kernel: 2.6.35 EV]

It says E because you're on "Edge"(2G) and not on 3G bands.. VPN doesn't have anything to do with the radio frequency you're on..

The Merge only supports these 3G frequencies: CDMA2000 1xEV-DO and HSDPA 2100. T-mobile only supports 3G on 1700/[1900(refarmed)]/2100. The merge DOES support 2100, but you also need 1700 band support in order to T-mobile's 3g network (See this). However, if you want to change the "E" to 3G for cosmetic reasons.. i'm not sure if that can be done. Maybe with some themeing. Google will be your friend and good luck ;)

Maybe I could find a nvram hack to enable 850/1700 3G bands but that's a fat chance haha.

as i said before i'm learning this , thanks for you're response
the ROM now works flawlessly im keeping this one on

i tought it was like modems back in the day when i tell my modem what speed to go but is way different

thanks jianC for you're work on this phone

when I change my network connection from 3G to wifi and vice versa, it doesn't always alert my system of the change and my programs with active connections don't reset and reconnect... they think they're still connected but they're not.

Here is a copy of my logcat during a network state change.

No problem :)

I'm not sure about that.. but I suspect that the disabled SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) could be a suspect. If that only happens on certain apps, it could be a problem with the app itself. I'm not too familiar with this, but hopefully the latest update will fix it. I've enabled TTY, HAC, and SIP support, and also have reverted the commit regarding my estimation of cpu speeds and amperage draw since it caused me to have terrible battery life.

As usual, see the OP for the download link.

Still getting same problem, when turning off wifi specifically... it changes to 3g without ever properly telling the server its disconnecting... so my client thinks its connected and when I cycle back the connection is still alive on the server as well...

You can try with any irc client, connect and cycle wifi.

...should I be wiping my data folders as well? I'll try again with a complete wipe, I just reformatted system and cache this time.

On another note, I found trebuchet 0.1 to be a bit unresponsive but nova launcher is working really well for anyone who's looking for a replacement. I couldn't disable trebuchet in app manager so I just used titanium backup to remove it.

Does that happen in other roms or just this rom? I think this is default behavior because of the way IRC works. You have to manually disconnect from the server while on your current connection before connecting with another connection. It happens to me when I turn off wifi on my phone while connected to an IRC server (e.x with my username "androiduser"), and then login onto the same IRC server using a computer IRC client. I have to wait a few minutes before the IRC server drops my "androiduser" connection, and then I can use it again.

Data does not need to be wiped with each update (I used to do that, until I released I wasn't getting any performance gains and just wasting my time haha).

About trebuchet (and the general responsiveness of the rom), I've noticed, likewise, there is quite a lag issue especially after installing several apps because the current memory settings aren't very efficient for multitasking with the lexikon's amount of memory. Some settings such as swappiness (set at 90 [default = 60]), vfs_cache_pressure (set at 20 [default=100]), and some other memory settings are set to keep apps in memory for too long, causing a delay when opening a different app.

I'll try to address these issues in the next release.

The problem isn't when the wifi does disconnect active connections when switching to 3G.. the problem is that it doesn't disconnect and thinks its still connected indefinitely, even though it is not.

Also, once a day, my phone reboots when listening to music, somethings up with the sound system but I dunno what.

hm.. it might be a problem with the old bcm4329 drivers (that was used in froyo and gingerbread). I'm currently picking up working on the 3.0 kernel again, which uses newer wifi drivers (bcmdhd). But with wifi shut off, the server should automatically disconnect the client because there is no connection.. but if anything, it should be a problem with the app... Idk haha.

I will not be providing anymore updates for CM9 (Unless I finish porting the 3.0 kernel, but that'll be for CM10.1 and it's much faster than cm9).

hello jianC, first of all, I'm just a fan of this great device and your roms.

I'm trying to port miui v4 with your cyanogen 9, I have a big problem, the screen is in landscape mode, only when I open the physical keyboard returns to portrait mode, any ideas? thank you

Are you doing a port with my libs, or actually using miui patchrom?

If you're doing a port, then you need to modify android.policy.jar so it will handle keyboard slide events correctly. The fix is located here: [GUIDE] [15-11-12] [Sense 3.*/4.0 | Ultimate Rom Porting Guide | Desire Z] - xda-developers (see "Keyboard fix")

Ill be picking up a merge tomorrow (10 bucks, prepaid US Cellular/ 3 hours west of chicago-refarm area). I was really glad to see people working on development here, I have done a lot of searching. I have already found the thread for root/s-off, I think I will be giving this ROM a try. Are the bugs listed in the first post still accurate?

Thanks

but after install and reboot it stays and HTC logo

do i have install a kernel? what kernel?

I am currently running the Fuzion rom from 2fastroms. I downloaded the cm9 and gapps and flashed them. My phone just stays stuck at the very first screen of bootup, doesn't even make it to the htc animation. I am rooted and S-OFF. Any clues as to what is happening. I tried to copy the boot.img from the cm rom using fastboot also but it fails saying remote not allowed. I've never had problems before....
