Few new features, mostly bug fixes tweaks, since there's a few new features it didn't get a 4.1.x designation as most bug fix updates get, so they made it 4.2 because there wasn't enough of a change to call it 5.0.

no. We will never get 4.2 on the Spectrum.

4.2 was mainly towards user profile ability (why we would need android user profiles on a mobile device beats me) . Camera enhancements and security patches.
As far as an aosp push, more difficult than a user would think so dont expect anything soon for the spectrum.
