Help 4.3 an Persistent Folders

BigRedGonzo

Android Expert
I just got the 4.3 update and have found a new feature that I particularly do not like. I utilize folders on my home screen to help keep things neat and tidy. After the 4.3 update, when I open a folder to run a shortcut, the folder is still open when I return from the app. Anybody know if there is a setting for this (I couldn't find one) and if so, where is it?

TIA

Interesting. I have one folder where I would like it to behave that way, and two where I don't like that. It would be nice if you could specify by folder.

I have not gotten the update yet. Once you return from the app, are you able to close the folder or does have to stay open?

I'm having the same issue and it drives me crazy. Almost to the point that I don't want to use folders until it's fixed.

I'm not sure it's broken. I think it's a choice they picked for us--very Apple-like. It would be nice if we could choose how each folder works, because some I would like to be persistent and some not.

For example, I had a folder called "Car" which had the apps I used in the car. The way it works now, it's like a mini-car dock app! Very handy. Similarly, I have another for email apps, and since I usually like to check all my email at once, it's nice to have that folder stay open. In contrast, one called "Misc" should close if it were my choice.

this must be a new "feature" for the s4, folders do not behave this way on my Nexus 10 with 4.3. I agree with Flybub, this is extremely annoying.

I've got the exact same issue with my 4.3 S4 and am just about ready to dump folders all together. It just gets in the way of a better user flow from app to app when the folder stays open.

It doesn't if you have the right apps in the folder! ;)

Seriously, I believe they should have made it a choice of whether each folder stays open or not, but I've found by arranging the folders I actually like this way better. But I would prefer the choice.

I feel your pain as it is driving me crazy too! Did you ever figure it out?

By return from the app, what exactly do you mean? I utilize folders extensively on my AT&T GS4 and when I quit an app (use the back button or press the home button), the folder is closed. I wonder if your issue is carrier specific?

Note: I just saw this happen once, but could not duplicate it. I have a folder named Phone/VM where I keep the stock dialer (I normally use Dialer One and have that in my dock) and a couple more apps. When I cranked up the stock dialer from the folder, then returned, the folder was still open. But I haven't been able to duplicate that other than that one time event.

I use Apex launcher and create my folder in Apex (as opposed to system wide folders). These folders close once a single app is launched.

I am having the same issue! I really don't like this. I think there at least needs to be a way to turn it off. Anyone know how to contact the android people to tell them about our distaste for this? I agree with everyone saying they should give up using folders.
