4.3 update Discussion and issues HERE !!!

Email seems to be coming through now too. All I did was tick the box in data usage settings. Is this the same as push email or is the phone constantly connecting to fetch the email.. if that makes sense. Want to keep battery life good that's all.

My battery is over a year old now. How much are official ones?

Got my Verizon 4.3 update this morning and LOVING IT!!!

Battery life is great and phone is super fast, almost like I had a factory reset ;)

So would you say having issued this 4.3 update along with all it's problems Samsung have now released another smaller update to fix the issues people were having........I have not read any statements from Samsung stating they have now fixed all the bugs in 4.3,battery drain, etc, etc, etc

Just updated with 4.3. No problems. However the notification bar is transparent and makes it hard to see the icons at the top of the home screen. The notification bar used to be black making for a nice contrast. How do I get that back.

Well something I cant get clear about clean installation, you down the update and install it then you reset and cash reset or you 1st factory reset then cash reset then u install??
After successful install, boot back into ARC and do a cache wipe followed by a hard wipe. This actually wipes out the cache twice and removes any residuals.

I am really confused now, should I do it or I wait...
Thanks to everyone
Dependent on how you feel. If you want, you can wait it out and see what others have to say first. Mine is the SGH-i317M model, so not sure how much more different it is to the GT-N7100 model. Especially when firmwares are concerned.

Official ones should go around $40 I believe. Anything less could be copies. But always try to get from a reputable seller (which is hard if spammed with good ratings). Mine is about a year old too. But battery was still excellent in 4.1.2 until the update.

Yesterday, I had 16 hours uptime, 2 hours screen time and battery was down to 14%. Battery is seriously much worse with this update compared to same usage on 4.1.2.

My phone memory had freed up with 4.3 too and also it now shows full 16gb as total. Internet and email displays are better too.
Yeah, but close to 5GB is system reserved. So only playing with around 10-11GB of user space. So no real difference since the previous version displayed only user available memory and hid the system reserved memory.

When in semi lit or dark rooms, it still glares and hurts the eyes with it's light coloured themes. Even with auto brightness dimming on it. I would have no problem if they kept it dark. Or at least have give us the option to choose.

Actually do you notice any hit on battery life with the extended battery?

The battery is actually fine under light usage. Putting it into serious use kills it much more quickly. I might try the SD card trick now and see if it will have any effect on the battery performance in 4.3.

I personally don't like it still. I had to make a lot of adjustments in other apps and settings to get back some things lost in 4.1.2. Not too pleased with that.

OK, I'm confused now. Where are all my directories with files?!? I know they are still there because I have the same amount of free space left on internal memory. But I can't seen any of my music or movies or picture directories on internal memory. Most of the app directories are missing as well. Any idea?

I didn't have any issues with files and directories. But I use X-Plore and rarely the default My Files. I can still see my directories and files. But (as you know) I cleaned house before the update.

Or are you talking about the 'storage' look up in settings?

Oh boy, doing more searching on the net. Apparently files in 4.3 are mounted to a different directory (I'm reading mostly S3 threads with people updating to 4.3). So the files are there, but I can't find that directory on mine. I'm not rooted, using work Exchange where security policy doesn't allow rooting. So, I'm stuck :( I have no problem viewing files on Ext SD card, but internal ones are somewhere in there, but I can't find it :(

Twister, are you using the default file manager? Did you try a third party one (provided you can install one)? Same results?

I don't know as most of my multimedia files are on SD. However, I can view all the directories and files using X-Plore (even hidden ones; once I check it to show hidden files). I didn't experience any issues. Unless it's carrier related?

Yes, I'm using X-Plore as well (the best file manager!!!). Prior to update, I had Download directory with a lot of work files in there and also Music directory with a ton of mp3s. Now the Download directory is empty and Music directory doesn't exists. Other directories I have seen before 4.3 update are no longer visible. But the empty space is still the same as before the update so I know those files are still there.

Regarding them moving files, I'm referring to this thread: [Info] Flashed 4.2? Can't find your /sdcard data? - xda-developers for S3, but I'm afraid the same happened to my Note 2, but directories where to look for my old files are different.

Ouch. That really sucks. My Note 2 is down at the moment as I'm reformatting the SD card and still restoring the files. I did a clean install, so I guess that's why I never stumbled on to this.

Wonder if anyone else who just installed over old can chime in and check whether they have this issue as well...

Holly crap. I have been poking with X-plore, went through all the directories. Rebooted phone again (that was my 4th reboot), and now I can see EVERYTHING!!! I mean, I have rebooted before and no luck. I can't even explain what happened, except after the last reboot I got a ton of Play store updates which didn't show up before. Now, everything is there. Bizarre...

I just upgraded from 4.1.2 to 4.3 on my Note II, non-rooted on Three in the UK. Third day in, I haven't really noticed any benefits, but I do have issues with it:

1. First day after upgrade phone locked up after screen went to sleep, with general browser, email, pdf applications running. No response to nav key or power button. Had to remove battery as was unresponsive. Never happened before.

2. Second day after upgrade phone locked up after screen went to sleep with various standard apps and Ummano podcast app running. Audio still playing but no response to nav key or power button or volume key. Had to remove battery again to restart the phone.

3. Kindle app: volume button now changes two pages at once. It is virtually uncontrollable. It was fine when running 4.1.2. One press, one page. Now this functionality is rendered useless. Bad driver for volume key I guess.

4. Stock email background colour is now forced white. I hate that. I want it to be black again. Read email now looks like unread email as it is highlighted more. Bad design. Bad UX and no choice to change it.

5. Need more time to enter lock pattern. Screen goes dark again in about 5 seconds. Cannot find any setting to adjust this. Annoying.

6. Generally 4.3 ignored a lot of my personalised settings and is behaving as though I am a new user, running first-run screens everywhere.

7. My keyboard now seems unable to remember that I want a comma to be kept as a user preference in the key to the left of the space bar. Bad UX.

8. My partner updated her s3 to 4.3 and had to change her screen saver because she could no longer read the icons in the top bar because the black background has been removed. A small detail but an unwanted and essentially forced changed. Bad UX.

9. If anything my battery is draining more quickly now. Marginal but noticeable. Certainly no improvement.

I've noticed with 4.3 that the dictionary no longer remembers things like email addresses. For instance I type my own email often and before it would often pop up after I type the first part. How can I get it to recall things like this again.

.

Thanks for the information am now doing back ups to everything including the SD card, although I remember while back when we did the 4.1.2 update it was recommended to remove the SD before the update, am also thinking to take it off before the installing the update, hope it might help, but what SD card trick you talking about

Constipated? :D

Uh, much better now, thanks for asking :p

So far so good with 4.3, though I did go into a list of running apps and killed everything I didn't recognize. If its absolutely necessary, it will restart. Battery has been on par with 4.1.2, and I have been putting it through some paces watching a movie and testing new headphones (expect more reviews, keep checking Accessory section :)) with Neutron MP set in high quality/cpu mode.

Guys, on 4.3 There is no longer an option to add weather to the lockscreen? Any work around this, without buying a freaking app? Thank you,

No more Bluetooth controls to change songs. It sounds petty but I use my phone for music in the car and this is no good

Yep, the same here. I know 4.3 should enable a new BT4.0+ble. Need investigate how to fix it.

... phone control is working, and I can change volume up/down, but can't use multi-function play/pause button :(

Nope, nothing in settings or lock screen widget. Went back to swipe unlock and checked. Even went into re-enabling the weather widgets and weather daemon. Nothing there. :(

Edit: Maybe Google+ with weather card or something? Sorry, don't use Google+ much either...

Yeah, that's light use for me. Put it under more strain and I actually get worse battery uptime. Mine is pretty bad... I do quite a bit of LTE browsing, emails, some SMS, a couple minutes of voice, sketches, a bit of gaming and some video/audio streaming. Definitely not on par with 4.1.2 doing the exact same thing for me. :(

I use stock Samsung keyboard and it remembers mine. Not sure if it's because I have Personalized data checked in Predictive text.

There was some discussion of the SD card affecting battery life. Some suggested formatting the card within the phone or removing it. I've done that, but battery is still the same. Bad as before with no improvement.

So battery life really does suck more with 4.3. :(
