4.3 update Discussion and issues HERE !!!

I never experienced this. But again, I did several hard wipes during my install and tests. Which resulted in limiting the amount of issues I encountered.

Wonder if Twister and Nobby can chime in as to whether they see any real issues with the update now that they did hard wipe their Note 2s. Nobby doing a clean install as well.

If anything, I have more annoyances with this update than issues. To me, the update screwed the Note 2 in features and other annoying things (ie. kiddie icons, ugly GUI, no pop up browser, etc).

I agree, they definately didn't make it as good as they could have, they should be asking the help of some custom rom devs who throw out the software after testing and its usually more stable than the official one released, with more features!

Everyone has different issues since the update. It's almost as if there's a random number generator in the update, picking bugs randomly.

You'll have to wait until Samsung gets its act together (or at least gets an act). Or you can try a different music player.

Is there another cloud music player you recommend?

I think I read a user here encountering issues with Knox when trying to revert back to 4.1. I can't remember what it was. But it looks like Knox in 4.3 will mess with anyone trying to revert back.

I guess the best answers would be found in XDA regarding the 4.3 update and KNOX.

It was me. I installed knox after upgrading to 4.3. Knox got stuck in the secure environment so I tried to reboot. The phone got stuck in a loop booting back up.
I had to boot into the recovery menu in the end, and do a factory reset.

It's not an error due to the update or anything, I think they've just added the option to view them like that and seemingly set the 'force full screen' option as the default. Don't know why you'd want to tho lol.

Edit - I've added some screenshots of the various viewing modes that are available for me. Note the little white icon in the bottom left corner

Odd. Maybe dependent on carrier or existing file being messed up. On my clean install, mine was fine. I didn't have to fiddle with that button to display things properly.

But one of your shots brings back memories of the spaghetti westerns... ;)

can we decisively refuse the update? My phone notified me of the update today and allowed me to "defer" it for 5 days, but I'm worried now it'll automatically download and install the update after the 5 days are up. Even if it doesn't do that, I'd rather not have to defer it every 5 days.

Dependent on your carrier. Go into system settings> about device. There should be 'Software Update'. If you see it, click on it. You should be able to uncheck the box beside auto update. If you do not see this option, then the carrier removed it and there's no general way to disable it.

yeah, I'm Verizon and there's no option there. Hopefully I can continue to defer it or I'll have to break down and root it to avoid the update.

when I hit the home button to check the time, I've noticed that there is a slightly longer delay for the screen to come on. I find this very annoying

Same here. Also have random lag now and then when in use.

Most annoying right now is the Android System chewing battery life at random occurrences. Haven't figured out what triggers this bizarre event. Sometimes it will show 100% usage and kill my battery. But even if behaving, battery usage is definitely much more higher in 4.3 than 4.1.2. I now think this is the culprit causing the battery drain to happen more significantly in 4.3.

I can honestly say I've had no major problems since the update.

I use the phone for internet/email/twitter, note taking, listening to music, internet radio and watching videos. (I've had lots of long train journeys over the last couple of weeks.)

The only app to crash has been Cross Country Rail, but that's hardly going to comfort those with problems.

I did notice that it lags a bit when opening apps but only for a second at most and sometimes when browsing photos it sticks a bit...

Battery life is probably a little bit down on 4.1.2 but not much.

I'm not sure if I've been lucky or it's because of the clean install.

I don't have that many apps on the phone - no games etc as it's my "office" and I'd be lost without it.

For info the apps I mainly use:
email/tweetcaster/tunein/polaris office/drive/BBC iPlayer/Maps/S Planner/chomp SMS/Hangouts/X Plore/Chrome/Sonos/default internet/GoneMad Player/BBC weather/S Note... so I don't really hammer my Note 2.

uuuuuuuuuuugggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

SO TIRED of my phone completely DYING overnight!!! I go to bed with over 50% in battery life... what is draining it????

I ran Battery Stats Plus and Media Server is running anywhere between 21-27% in Battery usage (more than screen). in Wake Usage, media server is 1 day 30 mins... again, more than anything else. What is that? I'm not running any media...

This constant worry about my battery life makes me love my phone way way less.

Hope someone can help...........

The media server runs in the background unless you turn on power saving mode. Give it a go.

I've noticed this too. I get a bit more lag when opening applications now too, sometimes a good two seconds.

Shouldn't be happening though. I never had power savings enabled. For the most part. It could be an issue with installing over a pre-existing system that is causing it. Try to shutdown/power on the device. Also might want to reformat the card in your phone and see if that helps. But make sure the card is fully backed up prior to doing the format.

My main issue I have now is the battery life being drained by the higher running processes of Android System and OS. They are actually overtaking screen time is some cases. Random occurrence and can't pinpoint what is triggering it off at those times.

A full charge followed by a complete shutdown/power on tends to fix it until it resurfaces again.

If you don't need to use the double tap on the home button to open S Voice, you can disable it in settings, there are a few posts about the phone lagging because its waiting to see if you are single pressing or double pressing the button.

i agree that it shouldnt be happening.... i am also not running with a card. last time i remember media server taking up battery life was when i did have a card and it kept some media file on the loop that was corrupted, so i got rid of the sd card and it worked perfectly fine................ till now

it's just so frustrating because every night im now paranoid to make sure to plug in my phone... even if it's still got over half life left on the battery.

i have no idea how to fix this or what's actually causing the issue... another corrupted file?:(

The only other thing I can think of is to do a cache wipe and see if that helps. Otherwise a hard reset back to factory defaults may be required. It's a pain, but that usually fixes most software related issues. Make sure you properly back up the device as a hard reset will delete everything in the internal storage.

Simple user here of Verizon Galaxy Note 2. NOT rooted. All I want to know is if this Update that they are pushing and only allowing us to defer for 5 days at a time will in any way affect my running of pdanet for a wifi hotspot.

I have unlimited data and use it often for kids, the car, etc.

Has anyone heard of any impact? Or does it only affect root options?

TIA

From what I've read, the Verizon 4.3 update will lock out Wi-Fi tethering. Fox-Fi, Portable Wi-Fi hotspot apps are no longer working with this update. Looks like Verizon plugged this.

I wasn't even aware that 4.3 was out and by coincidence checked for an update this morning and got the update. After the update, Touchwiz was crashing left and right to the point that the phone was barely usable. I tried clearing Touchwiz data and cache but that didn't help at all, so I did a factory reset and it seems to be back to normal.

I think I was due for a reset anyway because for the past month or so I've had several apps randomly crashing here and there. I was also having horrible battery drain, like yesterday I got 10 hours of battery life and that was with very minimal usage. I was at work all day so I wasn't even doing anything with the phone for most of the day. I used to get 30+hrs with comparable usage. Curious to see how battery life is on 4.3 with a factory reset now.

The update being pushed to the Note II is Android Version 4.3, just checked. Can someone shed any light on the pdanet/foxfi issue? Thought they couldn't block this now? Appreciate help.
