4.4 update - anyone got it yet? (Discussion)

Looking on the internet, articles saying that 4.4 kitkat is now availble to download (samsung ota rom) for note2's in France.

Anyone got it? Any thoughts so far?

I updated to 4.3 when it came out back in December, and whilst it was great, it totally stopped my S-note app from working properly.
I'm hoping that the 4.4 update will revive my s-note. I really can't be bothered to risk doing a full factory reset and wipe just to try and re-enable the Snote app!!

A factory reset is usually recommended before or after an OTA. "Risking" a factory reset is better than thinking the OTA will function 100% properly.

It will be interesting to see what problems this 4.4 Kitkat brings with it I would like to think it will eliminate other problems only time will tell ........I did not download the 4.3

Yeah, it's specific to the international model of the Note 2 - not for US versions.

I just updated my Note 2 to 4.3

I have the international version and I updated today. Thought I'd try it without a factory reset and so far it's OK but not perfect - I've noticed a flashing screen in some apps (as if something is drawn on screen for a fraction of a second then removed) and slight sluggishness in others (flinging cards in Solitaire goes noticeably slower than normal).

Coming from 4.3 I've noticed absolutely nothing new so far apart from the ability to have a transparent notification bar - which just make it harder to see with light backgrounds.

Aargh, literally while typing this I've just discovered another new 'feature' - it seems that under 4.4 apps can no longer write to the external SD card. WTF?!?

Update: apps can write to the SD card in 4.4 but things are severely restricted - see this article on Android Central.

Interesting article on Android central...............will just stay with my 4.1.2 and make sure my software Auto update remains unchecked

Questions..Did you do a fr? Less ram usage.. How are you measuring that? Very smooth...do apps open faster?

1) Indian version via ota
2)my phone when idle used about 1.2 gb of ram now uses 0.9 gb and when using Chrome it used about 1.4gb now uses 1.1 to1.2 gb
3)camera opens in almost takes half time in kitkat as it used to in jb and yes apps open a bit faster
Sadly no art support

Thats interesting. I had been doing some reading about it. Seems alot of the samsung stock apps got upgrades. The less ram consumption is one of the virtues they are promoting. When you say no artwork support...that is for camera? If so. Would that effect the music app being able to display album art? Not sure what you mean on that one. Thank you for the info your giving. Its good to hear it from a user review.

Lol My bad. I meant A.R.T (android run time)
It is found in developer options in nexus 5.
All current android devices run on dalvik runtime. In future it is said that a.r.t will replace dalvik which will make devices even faster.
