4.42 update

The upgrade to 4.4 broke my GPS completely. I did a factory reset to go back to 4.3 and then overnight it automatically updated to 4.4 again. After that the GPS works again.

Well, I retried going to KitKat (KOT49H) this morning, and initially had exactly the same issue with the GPS for both GPS Status and Google Maps that I had earlier. This time, however, I remembered something from my Galaxy S days about resetting the AGPS data using GPS Status. I tried this, and it took a few minutes, but did download new AGPS data, afterwhich GPS Status got a lock in a few seconds and Google Maps was now working fine! So, for those with GPS issues after updating from 4.3 to 4.4, try resetting the AGPS data.

I literally just bought my N7 less than an hour ago, does it ship with 4.4 now? I got it on Amazon with a friend's Affiliate link ($20 off) - 32Gb model, wifi only.

For me, 4.4.2 sucks.

I have grown accustomed to a sharp professional looking screen that is black with white/blue text for e-mail and recent phone calls, etc. That is now gone and irretrievably gone at that. Now all emails listed are on an off white light grey screen with dark grey text. It looks more like an early kindle e-reader than a sharp professional looking piece of hardware. I was upset when my Nexus 7 2013 wifi 16gb installed 4.4 and left me hanging. Kit Kat has very limited menus and most everything is not labled so not always intuitive.

To make matters worse, most of my emails now arrive with un-highlighted dead hyperlinks. I have been relegated to go back to the small screen on my phone to check my emails where the emailed links from a couple forums and other places still worked. This was early December.

Fast forward to Dec 30th and my new Moto X arrives. I activate it and it worked great and then immediately wanted to install 4.4 so, not thinking, I let it. Now the phone is just as bad as the tablet.

I am considering having Motorola exchange my phone for a new one like it and then not let 4.4 install.

Does anyone else have any suggestions for making this 4.4 lump of coal useful to me???

On the Moto X, I'm not sure due to bootloader situations. On the Nexus 7, unlock your bootloader, flash the 4.3 factory image, and don't let 4.4 install.

Alternatively, you could install a custom rom that has the aokp/cm theme manager to change the color scheme and then use a different email app that will give you the features you're looking for.
