4.52" screen and 1.2ghz dual core

I am for one glad they didn't throw in a kickstand, I still have never used mine. I think it is worthless personally, but I know a lot of people like them.

I didn't think much of the kickstand either until I got the EVO 3D. If you ever play music while in different parts of your house (bathroom for example), you don't have to lay your phone on the screen and can play without muffling the sound. Also if you have netflix, or watch youtube frequently the kickstand is a HUGE plus.

Kickstand FTW. While it's not a deal breaker, I would definitely prefer any phone with one than without.

More features is always better than less, at least in my opinion. The kickstand can be there and people can either use it or not. I did like the look of the Motorola Photon with the kickstand with the clock thing that pops up when u pull it out, that would be super cool to replace a alarm clock. I kinda wish Samsung/Sprint would have included it, even though I don't know if I'd use it, would be nice to have the option.

If I was you, I'd call Sprint up and straight up as them if you can get it a little early, we're only talking about a month and a half early. Worst they can say is no, got nothing to lose.

That plan is crazy!...... So crazy it just might work! I'm going to try this because my birthday is the 26th and I'd rather actually have it on my b-day instead of having the thought of getting it in October :D

Good luck sir :)

Also, did anyone notice the native built in screen shot capability? For the Galaxy S2 all you have to do is press the home key + power button at the same time to screen shot. Will look for the source of where I saw that, but I remember specifically seeing that because I wanted it.

The Epic 4G Touch runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread with Samsung's custom TouchWiz interface. It also has Vlingo's voice recognition app pre-installed, and features built-in screen shot capabilities.

Whoa! That's awesome, I hope that comes with the E4GT

I was at Radio Shack 4 months ago and my wife saw a phone she wanted, but she wasn't eligible for an upgrade for another few weeks or so. The sales rep said no problem.. he does it all the time. He called Sprint and to my surprise less than 1 minute later they gave him the OK and she got the phone. Give it a shot, you never know. I wouldn't have believed it if I didn't see it for myself. I used to work for Sprint about 3-4 years ago, and back then it was impossible to get an upgrade early... Even if it was only 1 day early.

True, but to me I think the kickstand takes away in looks department to me. When I had the Thunderbolt it was chipping a little bit and I never used it.

I think the Photon is better, but I have no fingernails and I have so much trouble even opening it up. lol.

I see why people like them and I see why others don't. It is just something I don't like or want on my phone.

But I will get the phone regardless if I like the phone, I do have the Photon.

Just a couple questions since I am really eager about this phone!

Is the processor really that much better than the snapdragon processor?

I ask this because my wife just got me for my birthday a brand new evo 3d... I only wanted it because it had a dual core processor and that it would be so much faster than my HTC Hero... I could care less about the 3d crap.

Is the screen on the epic tough 4g really that much better than a normal screen?

All I've ever used was a normal screen I guess so that's why I ask that.

Thanks,
-Nigel

I worked for sprint till Jan. of this year. During that time frame you had to be within 18 days of your upgrade, no ifs, ands, or buts.

As a non AMOLED devotee my feeling is that the LCD's have brighter whites when I compare my EVO's (EVO and EVO 3D) to my Wife's Epic. Where the AMOLED is amazing is the blacks that are basically non exisent, not grayish from being back-lit like the LCD's. There is unmatched contrast on the SAMOLED's however there is quite a bit of over saturation giving a "faux" appearance, especially to greens and blues which look more turquoise than actual blue. Apparently you can adjust the contrast on the new units so I'm not so sure as to how much it helps.

It's really like loving BMW or Mercedes, both fast, and great looking, but in different ways.

Where SAMOLED stands apart IMO is watching movies and videos, it's pretty awesome there. Warmer colors, even if a bit saturated. The lack of resolution will be definitely noticeable on such a large screen compared to the newer Super LCD's with much higher resolution so it's give and take, resolution, or contrast.

In the end it's a matter of taste, but the SAMOLED screens are yummy. I'd be lying if I said this wasn't the main reason I was interested in the GSII, if it had LCD I would pass in a heartbeat.

Samsung's Processor is significantly better in raw performance, but in real world use its not as noticeable. When it comes browsing the internet and pinch-to-zoom you can really tell that the Galaxy S2 is faster, but everything else its not as noticeable.

The screen is like looking at a Toucan (Galaxy S2) and then looking at a pigeon (EVO) jk. But when comes to viewing videos, pictures, playing games, or just looking at anything with color the S2's screen is way more vibrant than the EVO's screen and it has better viewing angles and view in sunlight. But the EVO's screen is better when viewing text because it has a better resolution and it looks crisper.

So it depends what you're using it for.

Looking at that graph makes me want the iPhone...nice and svelte.

I just cant believe the resolution is so low for being so big...tsk.

I can def understand your POV, guess its like anything with phone features, personal preference :)

In my opinion, you would only notice the differences in a side by side comparison. In everyday use, you wouldn't really notice a difference, and the EVO 3D is a very good device. The differences between the EVO 3D, Photon, and Galaxy S2 are small differences. The comparison of the BMW vs Mercedes was a good one, they're all fine, but its up to each person which they like better, and usually comes down to UI preferences.

You also need to consider the UI, there's some big differences between touchwiz 4.0 and Sense 3.0... both have their pro's and con's, but it def should be looked at if you're thinking about a change.

Sprint has bumped my upgrade up on two occasions. Once the gave it to me about 3 weeks early and one about 2 months early. Definitly worth a try.

I get yearly upgrades now, though. It's Very nice! ;-)

Not sure if anyone here has corporate discounts through their company, but I always use EVP Discount for mine and have always had great experiences with every phone I've ordered. I've already pre-ordered my SGS2E4GT today and they will ship it overnight (extra $12 whatever no biggie) on release day. I've done this for the EVO 4G and the Epic 4G and have gotten it a day after release without the waiting in line etc. I know there will probably be negative responses about EVPdiscount but I've never had a problem with them. Just my opinion

Yup speaker quality and volume. I need that big time. The Samsung Infuse's speakerphone is too quiet for me. My buddy's Galaxy S2 is louder but it distorts at high volume (maybe a dud?). I hope the Sprint version gets an upgraded external speaker. They should have the space as the phone is thicker now.

I wonder about this too. We know they went with a different screen size for the sprint version, and a higher capacity battery, I wonder if there is a different speaker or different 8 MP camera?

And what about the headphone jack quality? that is a big one for me as I intend to use this phone for music/podcast listening. I remember hearing reports that the galaxy s1 had higher quality sound from the headphone jack than the euro galaxy s2...

the original gs apparently had a wolfson dac vs the gs2 yamaha version? Not sure, not even sure it matters that much, but curious. Better headphone sound is a huge plus though if it is there.

I just checked and the company I work for does not offer such a discount. How much off your bill are you getting?

I can't wait for this phone. Love the giant screen! Couldn't get used to the narrow one on the e3d.
