Root 4EXT Touch Recovery?

saltire

Android Expert
Just perusing XDA and saw this. Looks good, but is it stable to use on Desire? Is it compatible with CWM 2.5.0.7 back-ups - ie will it successfully restore my current backups if I need it to?

Will buy to support dev if it does the above, just curious what does full version offer over free updater?

I use the free version. Ive had no issues.

Its based on CWM source so would assume cwm backups are compatible.

Yeah, but you know what they say about assuming things - there's no "I in team" or some s**t like that.

Cheers - will give it a go. Guess I can just fastboot flash CWM again if i need to.

I'm tempted to change my recovery from Clockworkmod 2.5.0.7 to 4ext .. I just wanted to check I'm planning this correctly.. before I jump in!

[TOUCHCOVERY] 4EXT Recovery Touch v1.0.0.3 RC 3 ([TOUCHCOVERY] 4EXT Recovery Touch v1.0.0.3 RC 3 | USB unbrick with autodetection - xda-developers)

I'm currently rooted with unrevoked but haven't s-offed yet.. but I plan to so this before I flash to mildwilds latest ROM and then use the ext4 partition instead of ext3 which I'm currently using.

I believe I can use Revolutionary (unzip and run) and follow prompts. Say no to installing their recovery.

a) Boot into fastboot mode (from off, volume-up and power or volume-down and power then cycle to fastboot option)
b) Connect phone to PC through USB. You should see "FASTBOOT USB" on your phones screen.
c) Open CMD (Start > Run > type "cmd" and press enter)
d) Type "fastboot flash recovery c:\your recovery file name" where c:\your recovery file name is the exact location and name of the recovery file you downloaded.

Then I can just flash mildwild and proceed as normal.

Thanks

Well yeah but you need the app to download the recovery image. So once s-off in this case you may as well just flash recovery with the app.

I assumed I had to do all this though Fastboot once I had s-offed.

Can I just s-off and then download 4ext recovery updater on my phone and flash recovery from the app?

It seems way too easy! LOL

It is pretty easy (and s-off seems to be easier with revolutionary according to the folks that have used it) - although didn't feel quite right flashing a recovery from an app instead of via fastboot  worked fine though :)

Like it so far, stable recovery and touch features brings it up to date, recognised my CWM 2.5.0.7 backups too - not flashed anything yet but mildwild oxygen rom looks interesting

Another vote for 4Ext. I find it easy to use. Love the touch screen version. Most useful functions include:

1. checking SD card
2. checking alignment
3. formating/ partitioning into any format you want

Well worth the small cost in my opinion.

Just my 2 cents.

cost? the recovery updater is free

I never thought i'd leave amon ra, but have been trying this for a fortnight now and am very impressed. No issues so far. Seems like a nice piece of kit.

All right, I've given in and tried it. Kinda sad to see CWM 2.5.0.7 go, as that was the oldest bit of software left on my phone

For some reason install from the app failed - was left with no usable recovery - but quickly fixed by extracting the img from the zip and fastboot flashing that (fastboot flashed CWM back so I could mount the card to do this without rebooting the phone). Just running my first nandroid with it now as a test.

Anyway, it's pretty cool. Nice little touches, e.g. I do like having a battery % in the corner of the screen - you should not be using recovery when it's too low anyway, but it's nice to be able to keep an eye on it

Yeah, you may be right! :D

But the ICS V2 theme does look cool (literally - lots of blue). I would make a joke about the recovery needing a screenshot option, but I'm afraid somebody will tell me it's there already!
