Help 4G antenna turns on by itself

(This is my wife's phone). I believe the problem began happening soon after her phone did an OTA update. When my wife drives through certain areas & when parked at work, her phone's 4G antenna turns itself on automatically. She does not want 4G nor the power drain associated with it. You can go to setting and uncheck the box, but it will turn on again by itself at a later time. Any suggestions?

try a soft reset. power off the phone(make sure that fastboot is disabled, settings>apps>uncheck fastboot) wait 30 sec and then power the phone back on. if that does not work then you might need to do a factory reset on the phone.

Thanks, but I had pulled the battery (with fast-boot unchecked) and that did not cure it. I'm trying to avoid a factory reset if possible since that takes a long time to piece the phone back together.

I'm not familiar with this recent OTA but I think it's related to your issue. I think it turns on 4G in some locations, automatically.

Pocketables – HTC EVO 4G receives OTA update to 5.07.651.1, along with Sprint Connections Optimizer

The Sprint Connections Optimizer is actually a nice little addition; it acts much like Locale in automatically turning on and off various network connections depending on your location. According to Sprint:
  • Wi-Fi and 4G radios on your device will be automatically turned on at pre-specified locations and times of day.
  • Your device will then scan to identify available Wi-Fi networks and automatically connect to those you’ve previously specified
  • In a small number of locations, the feature may automatically connect to the 4G network for faster connection speed

ooo, nice find Tube!:)
That sounds like what it could be. What an annoyance I would say eh?

Yeah, I read somewhere else how it turns on wifi first, then 4g, 3g, etc. or something like that. I've been spending too much time in all the android forums. LOL :D

Many, many thanks! Yes, we've began noticing that WiFi is also turning on. Now to figure out how to disable it. Paul

Hey there. I registered because i figured out the problem. If you go to settings>wifi(or "more" depending on your phone)>mobile connections, there should be an option called connection optimizer. Disable this, and your problem should be solved.

Thanks. I'm the original poster. My wife has had a different phone (Samsung SIII) for quite a while now. Perhaps your advice will help others. Paul
