Help 4G Connection Confusion?

Most of the time I see the 4G symbol, but it is grey ( rarely is it in color, what does the color/grey mean?) with either no bars or sometimes 1 bar. Then the other half of the time it is in the 1x symbol with maybe 1 bar? Why does it constantly do this, I'm in a 4G speed full coverage area (Orlando,Fl). Can someone explain what this means?

I have that same issue when i enter my building Xemnous. I believe when is grey out it running on a low to almost no bars.

I think that the arrows when they are colored are an indication that there is data going to and fro. If you are not connected to anything or simply just letting your phone sit, the arrows will remain grey'd out.

When you use the internet or are downloading something the arrows will be orange on the left and green on the right.
 
Green means upload, orange means download.
Like said above, no data going anywhere, icon remains grey.

As to the 4g to 1x changes, that happens when the 4g signal is not strong enough and the phone drops back to 1x mode, which metro uses for it's less fancy/slower phones.

Try turning your phone off and back on... if this continues to happen.

Go to your dialer and hit ##626*

then enter 587846 , then you will see an options menu scroll down to " done " and hit enter

your phone will reset and refresh on Metro's network

Hope this helps ya out.
 
I did that and its been working, my issue now is youtube just isn't loading up. When I go on youtube it gives me the green arrow only. And then says connection problem.
