4g glass...

yup, already cracked my screen and apparently there is no supplier for glass yet... awesome

Depending on if you cracked the digitizer it may be cheaper to just get a new device. This is why you get insurance. $7 or however much it is, is a hell of a lot cheaper then a new device or even repairing it.

Haven't even scratched my Evo yet. And he's naked.

My glass is nakie just because I got tired of how lame it looked with the $10 screen protector on it... and since that scratch test eased my worries... but have the bodyglove case.. love it and I have a habit of leaving my phone on my lap and getting out of my car... did it to my Pre many times

yea, was on a call and dropped it when someone grabbed my arm... freak accident, and not the end of the world. This glass is replaceable... just have to wait to find the company that manufactures it...

removal looks simple enough

HTC Evo 4G Teardown - Page 2 - iFixit

This is fairly common among touchscreen devices I think, so i'm not going to be too hard on myself. I do not have insurance, but its really not the end of the world. Just wish my case had come in the mail sooner... oh well

glass+digitizers on iphones are super cheap right now - about 12 dollars on amazon. My guess is when they release a kit it will be 80-90 bucks... sucks, but oh well

Rough story and I do really feel your pain. But you seem to be taking it in stride and keeping it in perspective. Just know how much respect I have for that.

Keep us updated on progress. I know someone else may soon so thank you for doing all the work to n
figure it out.

haha thanks man, its kinda hard when you have the really great members of this community telling you to "be more careful."

I do a lot of work on my car... so cars are kind of like phones right?

Yeah, if anyone can confirm that the HD2 parts work with the EVO, that would rock.

I've been careful w/ my phone being naked. After seeing the video of the screen scratch test on engadget, i don't need a screen shield, but this would be good to know for future reference.

How far of a fall did it take?

Breaking a phone has never happened to me before but freaks me out. I am very careful with my phones in general but falls will sometimes happen.

I think the background story helped clarify. And yeah, I supose I could have told you you *should* have had insurance. ( I do ) but that just seemed unnecessary.

It is not the end of the world. It just sucks.

Can you not buy insurance on a phone that you already own? If you can, why not buy it, wait a while and then have them replace the phone for 100?

haha not really interested in ripping off insurance when its my fault the screen cracked. Its not going to be even 100 dollars to replace the screen anyways.

Its not ripping off insurance if you pay for it, is it?

Also, can they not tell that you have opened the phone, and if you have opened the phone, it makes the warranty invalid. So if you have a warranty (doubting since the scenario you are saying), then it would be invalid and a waste of money if you have paid for it at all.
