Help 4G Issues - Chicago

I just ran downstairs to try again (on the 22nd floor in the south loop, I'm lucky to get much of anything).

Here we go:

Found this on another site. Anyone have the 4G fix? - Android Central Forums

turn off 4g. delete the file found under data/misc/wimax (mac adress).tree.xml. when you restart 4g that file re-generates. this should fix it

I had to buy Root Explorer to be able to view the file. Once I did this I was able to connect 4G.

I am in the Chicago downtown area.
Given the number of users that are having the same issues here in Chicago, I'm apt to believe that it's not a phone issue but a network issue. Also, I'm not paying $3+ to fix something that shouldn't be a problem in the first place.

I agree with you, but since I have a rooted phone I feel that I may have caused the issue and maybe Sprint would not support my phone. There may be a free explorer that would be able to access that system file to delete, I just didnt look in the market too long. Im just happy that I have 4G back.

that's alot closer to what it should be. nice to see it working for somebody.

i'll defiantly be testing when i get home, typically pull 4+megs at home on 4g, 3g runs about 25% of that.

Yup yours is definitely working. I'm a ways north of you though, so maybe just certain towers/areas are affected. But really I'm basing that conclusion off nothing. So...yeah.

I'm stock, not even rooted. I just hope Sprint gets a fix out soon.

I've never seen it get into the 4 mbps range. About 3.8 is the most I've gotten downtown or in the south burbs.

I can almost get to 1 mbps on 3g.

My Clear modem, on the other hand, can very occasionally see 5+ mbps. And sitting in my office up here, I can connect with Clear while my Evo can't (though, even Clear only gets about 1.5 mbps).

I'm actually slightly north of the arrow on that map. I'm on Jackson/Wells. That map makes it look like I'm as far south as Harrison.

When you try to connect, are you sure wifi is off? I actually was unable to get any data until I turned wifi off and reconnected to 4G.

I hit 5+ usually where I'm at, even on the 20+ floors...Madison/Wells. Must be connecting to different towers.

My wifi is definitely off.

As an aside, at street level I was getting just over 5mbps down and 1 up by LaSalle and Lake. Up in the office it was 1/4 that though.

i've pulled 7.09 and 6.94 while in my upstairs bedroom. those are definatly the exception.

3 seems to be a little slower than normal as well now.

I have just now been able to connect to 4G. It hasn't worked for 2 days. Using Speedtest.net I just got DL 3256kbs/ UL 744kbps on the 16th floor about 8 feet from the window. Just as a comparison, I also ran a 3G test: DL 562kbps/ UL 18kbps. Anyone else have their connection for 4G restored?

Greg, good eye. My 4G is restored as well, just did a speed test on floor 20, ~15-20ft away from the window:
5479kbps down
976kbps up

The funny thing is, my 3G has been cutting in and out this afternoon, seems like Sprint is doing SOMETHING.

Edit: 4G is going in and out

Not only am I not getting a good 4G signal ny 3G signal has been spotty. I have also had the no ring syndrome but once the caller leaves a message I get the message tone right away so whats up with that I say? My phone rings only 60% of the time and its getting dam annoying.

I want to say that Sprint is doing something to its network to make it better - I hope this is the case. My 3G has been really spotty as well, so you're not alone.

I'm outside the Loop now, but my 4G connected, I did a speed test, I loaded up a webpage, I smiled, internet stopped working, I frowned.

Now it looks like it's not even connecting, but doing the whole, scanning > connecting > obtaining IP > back to scanning, thing.

And yeah I also hope Sprint is doing something to make the network not suck so much ass

that's what pisses me off. the network was fine before they started ****in with it.

what really rubs me is the lack of communication from Sprint. if you are going to take the 4g network offline for upgrades, tell customer service so that when we call, we can get some info. or maybe send everybody with a number in the area a quick text message to tell us whats going on. it's not like they don't have our phone numbers.

i really like the evo, and i did like the 4g network, but i'm begining to wonder if i should have just waited for verizons LTE network. sigh

i started a thread on the sprint forum and people are chiming in there as well with the same issues.

anybody have the ceo's email....i'll send him a note

Was having the same probs not connecting with 4G for the past couple of days. On advice from another forum, updated my profile and is now working.

Looks like I spoke too soon. 15 min later, 4G is not working again. Tried re-updating my profile again, but no luck. Hopefully it's a maintenance thing and they are improving coverage. It'd be nice to be able to get 4G in my house, like their map says I should be able to.
