Help 4G not working?

waz up guys im from howardforums.com i see ya having a prob i sometimes have but what i did was installed a app called any cut on my phone then made a shortcut on my home screen LTE functionality test and from there u can toggle on or off ur 4g. works everytime my 4g disappears for some reason.

Yeah this week I've noticed either crappy 4G signal or none at all during various points each day. Fabulous.

I tried that and it didn't help at all.

I am acutally so dissatisfied with this phone and coverage, I am going to return it and cancel my service. Oh well, it was worth a shot....

Sorry to hear that... What a bummer. Fortunately for me, aside from a few random data connectivity hiccups easily dismissible since they're usually quite short, my service has been great so far. Sad to hear your experience was sub par

Yeah, sorry to hear that bro.

I have to agree with tiede, I am tickled to death with the phone, especially for the price (of service)!

The most reliable way I have found to get 4G reconnected is to open up the dialer, hit a single number then the dial button, wait for the screen to turn green and the call timer to reach 2 seconds then hang up. 4G connects usually 3-5 seconds later.

Lame I know but at least its faster than rebooting!

Mines isn't working right now... the 1x and wifi work fine... anyone else havin this issue?

I was having issues again this morning and this afternoon with 4G not working.

Hey I have had my phone for two days now and my 4g isnt working only stays on 1X does anyone have any idea why? I am in miami also using the samsung galaxy r910. I am really new to this so all sugestions accepted. thank you.

edit: F*CK THIS. I am taking the phone back and returning it for a full refund and canceling my service. I travel a lot and cannot afford to have a phone that drains the battery in a couple of hours JUST SITTING. A new phone should work correctly out of the box and the service I am paying for (4G) should also work as I am well within the published area for it. It was worth a shot...thank God for the 7 day "Metro Promise". lol

i was going to create a whole new thread about it but hopefully you all see this.

the issues with 4G and some of the things i am hearing, every one of you having this issue i ask you to do a favor and check: menu > settings > about phone > Baseband version

ONLY DO THIS WHEN YOUR 4G IS DOWN AND YOUR PHONE ONLY DISPLAYS 1x.

if the basebands read:

CDMA: R910.0. (and so on)
LTE: unknown

then there is your problem and you can't fix the issue yourself, you must get a new handset, but if you have 1x but the baseband LTE verison reads:

LTE: SCH-R910. (and so on)

then your 4G radio is fine.

quick fixes for the issue are just that, quick fixes they will not fix the device for the long haul.

another less probable issue is your account. if you purchased the phone on an already paid bill but then had a difference that needed to be paid and still turned around and paid that, the account hasn't fully pushed that to what the LTE Sim cards are suppose to pick up. you have to give it a few days to fully post before the network can re-enable the 4G.

aside from that, hoepfully a firmware update comes soon to fix the issues that the LTE radios are giving you guys.

oh and apps won't help the LTE radio issue either. again just a quick fix but nothing permanent.

well it works 100% for me everytime ya must live out in the woods no offense but compared 2 where i live where i only get 2 bars max most of time i still manage to get my 4g back on with the flip of the toggle. now it may or may not work for every1 but was just a sugestion i provided to try 2 help out a lil.

Yep. i used your any cut quote to make sure that any one who mentions the apps understands that again, it's a quick fix which as you said "works 100% for you every time" but it's still a repetitive procedure because it's a quick fix, but not a permanent fix.

I live in New York. you can see that over
<<<< --- here.

for people in other areas where 4G is scarcely available, i hope this helps in some possible way.

on a side note, Florida and California are suppose to have the best 4G speeds because here in New York I get 4 full bars at home with no fluctuation but due to the density of New York's structure (i.e. buildings..lots of them) my speed can only max out at 2M... :(

Damn this is my second test with metro and im getting so disappointed. I purchase last week on Monday. returned it due to the fact that the phone was not able to be rooted to then realize they rooted the phone on sunday. Now i go back and pick other up just to realize that there is a problem with LTE and the 1x is giving me speeds of 45kbs D and 14kbs U this is unacceptable. I come from a sprint world and this SH!T is driving me crazy i will take it to a Metro Corp store and if they can fix it ill just return it again and just settle for T-Mobile at lease i know i can relay on there network and there speeds. Leaving Sprint because im trying to bring down my Cell bill. additional this phone is a major downgrade from my EVO.

Every time i do a speed test the ping is 999 and the server that supposedly I'm closes to is in Dallas TX which it 49 miles away. this make no sense as i live in Brooklyn NY. this means that metro is routing me all the way back to TX in there network and then I'm exiting in TX to the public insterenet which is F#$King Dumb and would explain the Ping time and the speeds

What speedtest are you using? Your suppose to use the NY server or any that are closest. That's why your ping is reading so weirdly. I do my speed test off the New York, New York Server.

are you suer the app just isnt being dumb and detecting your metro IP as being from TX and in turn guessing thats where you are?

2 be honest i envy miami they have had 4g for a longer period than tampa where i live and i think i read somewhere that in miami their speeds are even faster so hope it spreads up a lil bit more north lol.

EVO.???? ok i understand the frustration you are having with the metro service.. but evo is not close to the specs..puter-wize of this phone...

BTW in southern cal orange county on the beach I am beating a friend bot off or online with his lightening and Verizon.. my phone itself is faster opening and executing.. and my 4G is faster when i go online... oh and believe it or not lolol my battery last's longer than his lol

Honestly we are using a brand new technology. still being set and finalized these are growing pains I'm sure metro has decided to play against the BIG BOYS.. they beat them to the punch and came in from behind....sort of like Linux.... hmmm I respect that

If you enable wifi, then update the server list, then disable wifi you can pick a close server. However I don't think that is actually the closest server if the app is working how I think.

It may very well be that proxy.metropcs.net (where all our traffic goes through) is actually located in the southeast part of the country so by picking a physically close server you are making your data take a longer distance. I suggest comparing ping times to confirm

Edit: Ok the closest server is not the physically closest server! For best results goto http://whatismyip.com on your phone and then input that number into http://cqcounter.com/whois/ to get your true "location." You will want to pick the server closest to that result :)

I know this. but it wont matter. i'm coming out to the internet in TX. so even if i was to select a NY server the Ping would be even higher.

I have been using Speedtest.net app on everything and the way they do there server selection is by looking where you are getting onto the internet and then giving you the closes server. (this is all that matters when you are doing a speed test.

My biggest problem is that i see you guys complaining about 4g stability. Which doesnt happen on my EVO.

Ciper finally someone that know what they are talking about. you are correct. i tried the Wifi then go back to 1x and i got even worst ping time. 4000-8000 average was 6000 something. I guess metro is doing what clear was doing at one point. they routed everyone on there backbone back to Kentucky but at least the 4G is not that bad here. I just dont understand how last week everything was working fine when i got the other phone and now i can even see 4G

Just out of curiosity can you guys post the IP address that you are getting and the result of the speedtest (using Speedtest.net app)

Tested 20 times out of this 20 4 of them timed out(meaning i got 0d and 0u).
D Average 93kbps
U Average 45kbps

The IP address im getting is is
Arlington, TX
65.91.116.33 and metro uses L3C this must mean that L3C gives Metro the best rates in Tx and that way metro comes out to the internet from there. damn this really sucks.

What i dont understand is that last week when i got the other phone i was getting really good speeds for does 2 days i had the phone. I mean really good. in 1X i was getting D 1.2mbs and U .98 and when on lte i was getting D1.1 and U.99 which is something i can live with coming from sprint 3g D2.1mbs and up .55mbs and 4G D3.4 and U .98.

I was reading online and the artical i was reading was from 2009 and they said that metro 1x speed was D 128kbps and U 80kbps. Just wanted to know if this speed have improved. I can deal with this speed. I prefer to pay more money to have something reliable.

I get slightly better speeds by removing the proxy settings from the phone.

should be able to create shortcut with anycut to the poxy settings and clear them out.

hmm i know it has to do with location.. but i have had steady 4g no drop outs my slowest test was 2.90m-2.86m.. oh i also when I got my phone proxy was set turned it off to see what if.. still off

yeah I cleared the proxy when I first got the phone, but never actually tested if it made any difference with speeds.

Mike can you tel me how to do this. Carriers do this kind of S because it cheaper for them to have all there traffic routed to one location and exit at a particular location because is cheaper in the location.

Can you post your speeds on 1x and on 4g if possible. and do it at lease 3 time. You will see you will get better speed after the 3 try. this is because your phone/network knows the past they will take to get out, so it no longer asking where is this it just goes.

Thanks for the reply.

Man I think I'm going to make a thread about speed. Ill look to see if anyone made one first. but i really need to nail this one in the butt before i make the switch.

BTW when I first brought my phone home it did boot the next morning to 1x.. I called metro tech support and they refreshed my data... no probs since..... have you tried that as of yet?

Yah i was on the phone with them for about 1hr or so. we even did a hard-reset on the phone. When i called back to speak to tech support for the second time (the first guy thought i was stupid and didnt know about cell networks or anything) I finally got through to someone that was not trying to BS me and told me i should take the phone to the store and see what they can do for me and that if i just got the phone maybe i need to replace it.
