4g on Nexus 4

Will there ever be an update that will allow the Nexus4 to work on 4g?
Is it even possible via an update?

The device was never certified by the FCC for LTE usage. So unless it goes back to get recertified, there is no chance. However it has the hardware necessary to use LTE on band 4 which is used by T-Mobile and most Canadian carriers if you're willing to root and make a few modifications. However band 4 is not commonly used in Europe, or Asia in which case it wouldn't matter if an update came because it lacks the hardware necessary to use LTE on their common bands.

The FCC is of no interest here in the UK (where the OP is) nor are the mess that is the US frequency allocation...

That said I don't know whether the Nexus 4 has hardware support for 4g (as it is always called in the UK) and if possible whether anyone has actually done it.

Oh well, another reason to get a Nexus 5 then I guess :D

Yep, they're making two different version of the Nexus 5 so that it can use LTE in it's region. The LG-D820 is for North/South America, while the LG-D821 will be for Europe and Asia.

I'm sure I read something recently that said LG were putting something through the FCC with a model number very similar to the Nexus 4. The story then summised that a Nexus 4 LTE would be unveiled around the time of the Nexus 5.

This could all be a dream, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't :D

I think the story came about after the Nexus 4 apparently had another Bluetooth sig filed. It was filed under the exact same model number, the LG-E960. The blogosphere then jumped on that and extrapolated that maybe LTE would be coming. Might be true, but I doubt it.
