4G question

[Divamom2skj]

I am totally tech-challenged when it comes to phones so I ask you all:

With all the talk of the Nexus S being easily upgradeable, is it just the operating system that can be upgraded or other features as well? Can a 3G phone upgrade to 4G?

Thanks for the info.

4G is hardware dependent .....

The talk about it being easily upgradeable is referring to its software. As a developer device, it doesn't have the usual locks on it to keep people out, so mods and developers are usually very quick to root it and create custom ROMs for it.

Also being an official developer phone from Google, it will receive official software updates directly from Google as they come out, rather than having to go through the manufacturer and carrier channels which take months (or years if you're talking about Sony Ericsson).

Going from 3G to 4G requires different hardware, so something like that could not be upgraded. Other features that are only software dependent, such as 720p video recording could be added later.
