Help 4g Tethering Painfully Slow on MetroPCS Motion

AppleUser

Android Enthusiast
Tried LG Motion 4g hotspot to tether my iPad and a friend's iPhone and it was miserably slow and timed out on either device.

Each Apple device was registered on the Motion, and a valid IP was obtained.

Has anyone had success with tethering ?

Is tethering an extra monthly fee ?

It timed out because the system blocked it. Go on another hotspot & A. If they're jailbroken install user agent faker & change it to the user agent that the motion has or B. Go on the apple AppStore on both devices & install opera browser the data sent from the app is hidden & encrypted through operas servers

tether just fine with a few adjustments. havent had the need to do it for a while though.

first step in doing anything is learning how to do it. when me or anybody first does something we need to understand it. find and follow instructions.

if you cant find a fix sometimes there isn't one and sometimes you need to think outside the box maybe try a dual boot that would work i have win7/Ubuntu i hate mac it doesnt lke playing with the other kids on the yard. i think its bull but thats just me

Jailbroken ? Don't understand. Never heard jailbroken being applied to the iPad.

Will download Opera on the Motion and iPad and try it again and that Wifi spot and another spot.

Cool. I have the $55/month unlimited plan, so it should be included.
No, only available on plans without unlimited data. No carrier would ever allow tethering on there unlimited plans they would be setting themselves up for network abuse

So is my being on the unlimited plan the sole reason it did not work ?

I tether my Android tablet to my Motion all the time. I just turn on the Motion's 4G Hotspot and no big deal.

So if my iPad2 were jail broken it would work with tethering on the UNLIMITED plan ?
Actually you can also use a VPN that you can download from the apple AppStore like hotspot shield(probably the simplest way). But yes if you jailbreak & install user agent faker from cydia then you can tether

I have the $75 unlimited and tether is included in mine for some reason. My streaming speeds while playing call of duty match up to my friend who is using clear WiFi. :P

No, the reason it isn't working is that MetroPCS blocks user agents from windows based machines and iPhone/iPad devices. It looks at the user agent that the program reports and decides to block it or allow it. In order for it to allow it, you will have to chose a non Windows or iDevice or strip it entirely. When tethering on a mobile device, you can simply use the user agent from any android, if from a pc, then use a Linux or Mac based user agent.

I am not sure if it is cool to post user agent strings here, but you can learn more about them at useragentstring.com

Keep in mind that tethering can be traced, and there is a soft cap on the unlimited data from MetroPCS. When you hit it, your data will slow to around .1kps. The limit is 60 gig. Both my wife and I hit this cap from just Netflix, but it would be easier to hit it if you tether.

Doing so is at your own risk. Even on the plans that allow tethering, MetroPCS still filters user agent strings. So it is an issue for everyone to deal with.

Good luck.

I got the $55 unlimited promotional plan and I asked about the Wifi. I was told that I couldn't have WiFi with any unlimited plan, so I just took the $55 pro plan. When I got home I was curious, so I tried the WiFi and it worked fast and perfect. I didn't expect it to work at all. I had 2 movie torrents that downloaded in 38 mins. At the same time I had my friends EVO 4G and my iPad connected while I was playing Gears of War 3 on my Xbox 360 without any lag at all. My shit is great and doing 1.5 GHz out the box. I've had mines for 3 months and I still enjoy it.

4g WiFi hotspot works with every plan, that does NOT mean that its included in the plan and they will charge you if you go over the top with the tethering. 4g WiFi hotspot IS NOT included with ANY of the promo , they will charge you out the bunghole

I got the tethering to work at home from my Motion to my Mac. The trick was to NOT use Safari as a browser. Sea Monkey and Opera worked fine and very fast.

Thank you all.

Ok just to clear this up
- You may NOT add tethering to any full unlimited plans ($55,$70)
- It is not included in any plans
- You may bypass the block on ANY plan on the device your trying to tether to by using a browser that runs data through their servers such as Opera or by changing the user agent string or by using a VPN
