4g update? Confused.

Originally I had the samsung captivate but it died on me so I went back to my iphone 3gs. When I switched the sim card from my captivate to the iphone, I had to call ATT to switch something to make the data work.

Last week I traded my iphone 3gs with a friend of mine who didn't like his Samsung Infuse. After I installed the sim card on the phone I noticed that the data still work so I didn't call att to have it fixed.

Last night I got a text from att saying.
ATT Free Msg: Did you know an eligible data plan is required for your 4g Smartphone? Pls call 611 to select a plan and establish your 4g data connection today.
So after 15 min with att on the phone they put me on the "right" data plan, still got my unlimited.
I went to dinner that night and tested the phone's download speed with the speedtest app and I got 7.1Mps. I tested it again and got 8.9Mps. I tested it about 10 times more and averaged about 6-9Mps.

When I got home I tested the phone again and I only averaged about 1-2Mps like my other phones.

So what does this mean?

My house does not support att's 4g?(I know its not LTE but att's HSPA+) and the restaurant where I had dinner supports 4g?[
or it was just a fluke and I got super fast download speed for that moment only.

I haven't had a chance to go back and test the phone from that same spot. I tested the speed in other areas where I had full bar and the most I got was about 2.5Mps.

What is the fastest download speed you tested on your Infused?

it wasn't getting on your home's wifi was it? how about your signal?

my best speed was about 3mbps down/.70 mbps up. my phone says h+ but i think it's 3g at best still. (service wise)

oh, and you definately came out ahead on the trade. i hope he's enjoying ios5 on the 3gs lol.

No its not on a wifi signal. The test clearly shows that it is a cell phone antenna.

BTW, on my home wifi my phone gets about 5Mps. On my hard wired computer I can get anywhere between 15-22Mps depending on the time on Comcast.

hmmmm my wifi speed is about 5 down/1.28 up. but then again i live out of town, and lucky to even have high speed out here. so that's pretty good.
