Root 5.5.893 if Root-ed

Will the 5.5.893 Production OTA install on a device running 5.5.886 that is root-ed but has no other root-related changes other that a few Apps like Titanium Backup Pro, SuperUser Elite, and Terminal Emulator?

I retract what I said.

It's the same update that we were using in late September - the identical one - 5.5.886 --> 5.5.893 (think one of the three incremental updates that we discussed that eventually broke WebTop). Therefore, it should not only not break root, but if you are not rooted and apply the update you'll still be able to root later on.

There's a much easier way to root the Bionic "forever" than Forever Root. Head over to psouza4dotcom/Bionic and follow the simple intructions. No need to mess with command lines, just plug in the USB and launch the program. It works on all boney stock Bionics running 5.5.886. I just installed the OTA push yesterday and all is well. I hope this helps all who fear bricking their phone by messing with system files.

is that pete's motorola tools?

If so, it's one click, but takes two reboots.

Yes, it is, and it's clunky at best.

Teddyearp posted in the Motorola DROID forums the following, which I replied to:

One click methods are great, but when they break it's great to have a backup so that you can simply say "Feh. I got it rooted."

Below is what I had to do. I updated the 893 OTA, lost root and Petes one click would not work nor would the standard 434ever root. This will wipe your phone, reinstall 886, root and 4ever root and then you can flash 893 ota again to be 4 ever rooted on the latest OTA ...Disclaimer, bla bla bla no responsibility.. bla

Download R313AS3dRoot zip file
Extact files to a folder
Right click on E3L3AS3DRoot.bat file and click on edit
Scroll down to the line "Echo* Installing su, busybox, and superuser" hit enter and add the following to the line below:

adb wait-for-device
adb wait-for-device

Save the file as edited and run the E3L3AS3DRoot.bat

A. I had to run option one and it wiped my phone and installed 886 stock to the phone.
Wait for the phone to totally reboot.

B Your phone will be totally wiped so you will have to make sure you are on usb charge and also make sure usb debugging is enabled. Both of these will most likely be wiped when you flash part one.

C. Once you are booted up and you have made the changes to usb charge and enabled debugging you can go to the second part of the prompt to root and 4ever root you phone.

D. It will prompt "Ready to root when you are"
"press any key to continue"

The program will then root your phone and 4ever root.

E. When this is done you will have to go to settings/about phone/system updates and reinstall the 893 update. You should have a 4 ever rooted update.

Yay!! I just did the forever root method using Root Explorer. Don't know why you need an easier method than that! And I did the OTA update and I still have root!! Doing Nandroid backup now, will refreeze bloatware and redo the WiFi Tether hack again.
