5.8.894 offical update before ICS update

The 5.8.894 update is the official last maintenance update before ICS rolls out to all bionic phones in late January if u have not updated to any leaked ota's u will receive the following updates in the following order before you get ICS ( 5.5.893--> 5.7.893--> 5.8.894--> ICS ). If you go the standard route with the updates via Verizon it will take at the latest 4 months for everyone to be fully updated to ICS. Due to the fact that moto is sending out updates in batches an not all in one wave so everyone gets it at the same time if u wish to skip the long route u must have a bare bone stock bionic an u can download the 5.8.894 update if u go to droid forums an type in ( 5.8.894 official update before ICS ) in the search forums box lol unfortunately this forum wont let me post links since i am new you can update an wait only a month and a half at the most before that sweet OS rolls out to your bionic.

( make your bionic a happy bionic )

What is your source? What is "droid forums" in your message?

You are apparently talking about a leak of the latest version that is in "soak test" and referenced in ... http://androidforums.com/motorola-droid-bionic/438060-bionic-reference-terms-links.html#post3398984.

A leak is a leak. As far as I know 5.8.894 may (or may not) be the OTA that is released.

There is a question if the people who installed the other leakes (incremental) will be protected when the OTA is actually released. It is not possible to revert some of it.

it is not a leak it is a an official update my source is the lead tech support representative at moto he said i had the final maintenance update that was on there motoblur portal and that the ICS update is the next to come an he said it would be late january before i would see it he also stated that they updates will be pushed out in batches so some people will get the updates and new os before others. people that are at stock they have to do the updates 5.5.893--> 5.7.893--> 5.8.894 before they can get ICS and he said it will take about 4 months for everyone to be fully updated

Interesting. So the leaks we got are going to become official according to what you're saying. Minus the 5.6.893 that seem to have broken webtop or something like that lol.

Your orinal message said peopl (like me) with no leaks installed could go to droid forums and get the complete update.

I asked before ... what is "droid forums"?

All I wanna know is - do these updates break root?

Most updates do. I believe 5.7.893 and 5.8.894 were. There were some reports of 5.8.894 being rootable after it broke it. I dont think everyone was successful.
Mind you these were the leaks and not the official releases.

this download is 5.5.886.XT875.Verizon.en.US
not the 5.8.894.

Previous leaks had the same naming scheme. 5.5.886 > 5.7.893 was also named 5.5.886. But Thom is right as an official supposed OTA why isnt the naming scheme different.

"check for update is not available at this time. Try again later."

Great. the update is about to drop, and I can't connect. wunnerful...

I d/led that leaked OTA from the mediafire link a week ago. It Is the 5.8.894 OTA. Flashed it and no issues so far. Moto has a very screwed up naming convention for OTA. They always seem to reference the older SW version the OTA upgrades FROM.

I flashed this as well. Seems to be working great. I also was able to root a couple days later, and do some debloating. Been running solid. (Well except for the 4g outage that took all day yesterday)... But I see a lot of people had that, so must have been a Verizon thing?

But can't comment on if this is intended for OTA or not. It is announced as a "leak". As for the name, from my understanding, it is always referenced as the build GOING FROM not going to.?

That condition happens now and again. Try again in a few minutes and it will then tell you that it isn't available.

I may be wrong, but I'm thinking that we have to have a 4G connection for the update process to function. anyone??

Since I have no 4G, I've been unable to check for updates.

I am pretty sure you don't have to be on 4G for update to work considering not everyone is on a 4G ready area. It would be unwise for them to do that. Updates usually are done over OTA or via a computer for those who don't have the time/bandwidth to download the OTAs.

you might be correct, and if so then it's very coincidental that ever since I lost 3/4G 3 days ago, I've been unable to check for updates. I used to be able to check, prior to the lack of 3/4G

I'm in a 3G only area. I got the message twice after checking just for the hell of it.

Stop worrying. It hasn't been released.

Previous OTAs that I got for the Droid X were released a few regions of the country at a time. If you hear that it is available in your area and you cannot access it then you can do something about it.

Some unofficial documentation talked about in another thread referenced a page on the Verizon website that had a document indicating that there would be three ways to get the update ...

OTA in res pone to the way you are checking.
OTA announced from the server.
As a download form a Verizon website.

This will be known for sure when the OTA is released.

Still another thread suggested that release might be the end of next week if all goes well.
