Root 5.8.894

Hey guys, I can confirm that this latest OTA does NOT patch root...

I was able to upgrade to 5.8.894 from stock w/ forever root, NOTHING modified in system; same scenario as the OP from XDA.

New Kernel / Radio versions

Baseband/Radio: CDMA_N_03.1C.57R LTEDC_U_05.15.03

Kernel: 2.6.35.7-g68606e6

did you use the cheese cake method? What update were you on before you flashed 5.8.894? Do you have the update to upload.

Yes, I used cheesecake to download/install the update. I was originally on stock Blur_Version.5.5.886.XT875

I would be more than happy to upload the 5.8.894 update, do you know where this is saved when you perform an OTA update? Couldn't locate it on sdcard.. Thanks

Unfortunately, I did not find it in the cache. In fact, I searched the entire contents of the phone with no success.

Once the update process is complete, I assume the system deletes the file from cache, is this true?

it only works coming from complete stock (radio/webtop/kernel, the whole package), until someone with the know how can create some different updates for us.

That just totally sucks... Come on all the big brains at this stuff. I know it's turkey day, but work some majic.

Actually, from what I've been seeing, extracting only applicable parts makes it easy enough to make a partial update. But the problem with that ideas a partial well mean only the system, not radio, baseband, etc.

Let me look around and get back to this thread tonight.
