I brought my wife to a Verizon store today so that she could finger a RAZR. I occupied myself by checking out their Bionic on display and down to $249.

I screen grabbed their current software... much higher than mine on the in store demo! See pic.

I don't think I've even seen a leaked version that's that high. I wonder what version we're going to end up with as the final release which hopefully will be in the next week or so.

The .991, and .992 were never stable systems, I would stay away from those Higher is not always better. Most threads caution staying away from them. The best one out you can download is 5.7.893, and as far as the dev community knows will be the official one. I am currently on it and it does contain a new radio and kernel along with all the listed fixes including battery. If you go over to rootzwiki or xda forums there is a full CWR .zip file you can download. You have to be rooted and on .886 but there are instructions on how to get back to complete stock.

not saying you are wrong at all but what kind of deranged engineering dept would come up with a system where a higher version number is less advanced? what about just denoting it as a displaymodelversion.5.5.xxx, etc.?

In a single word ... bugs.

(It has not been released to us.)

(They could be not adding any functionality and are just trying to get rids of as many bugs as they can in the distributed software. In the process they may introduce new bugs.)

The problem with that idea, though, is that we would have already found it on the Cheesecake apps on one of the servers if this was a testing build of any kind.

As for why Motorola named it what they did - only they know. it may very well be a demo version - I'll try to stop in to the local store tomorrow and see. And compare my camera versus that one versus the RAZR.

That would make no sense - unless those display models get put back in the box after being 'imaged' (in a fashion) back to the stock latest official version of the software....

Which only goes to defend my statement that I had seen, with my own eyes, employees boxing up a device and 'sealing' it....

Yes ... since FXZ exists there is no logical reason for the strange numbers to exist ... my money is on jasu (just another screw-up).

I don't think so. The baseband is the original supplied with the phone - I'm leaning more toward a 'demo' version. however, if it actually said demo savvy users would notice that in a heartbeat and it would be all over the news that in store demos are running a demo (potentially crippled / potentially augmented) OS version.

5.5.886 --> 5.5.893 did not update the kernel and baseband, but 5.6.893+ does. So, I'm guessing it really is just a demo version.

I just noticed that I can see enough of the top part of the Webtop version to know that it, too, is older than the one on my phone.

Greetings. Just received a refurbed Bionic that is running 5.9.991.XT875.Verizon.en.US. From what I have found, this is a demo build, and I'm looking for some help on how to restore to a default version so that it will update via OTA System Update. Most of the posted links with instructions and update files I have found appear to be rather old and the links are no longer valid. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
