5 Reasons People Hate Apple

As far as Apple, I really started to despise Apple, and Apple fanboys, when Apple started bricking Jailbroken phones. That was the point where I really started to despise Apple. I started despising fanboys when they supported Apple's right to do this.

up until that point, I wanted an iPhone.

I noted the same thing about many iPhone users around that first jail breaking time.

But the deal killer for me was my kid's iPhone 3G, which seemed like it was in jail, come to think of it. The battery, the myopic app handling, just the overall philosophy of the thing. I found nothing intuitive about it, as compared to Android devices.

Android wins easily in this comparison.

Where iPhone users feel they're winning is in areas that Apple has induced to happen beginning with the Mac; things having to do with brand loyalty and bringing a sense of being a part of an "anti-Microsoft" community, etc.

Android does all of that without even trying.

You hate Apple's closed architecture.

Mainly because it's from PCworld, which is known to post biased reports. Even more when they make this comment that Apple prefers a closed source over open source, when the last time I checked Windows and the NT kernel is also closed source. Funny how that works, considering that a magazine/internet website that mostly goes for Windows and Microsoft products is complaining about closed source. Ios4 may not be open, but OS X is certainly more open than what Windows see. See Apple releases the kernel source of Darwin to the public for anyone to download. They also release their kext sources, so while their mobile platform may be entirely closed, their computer platform has some sort of open source content. And while I'm comparing their computer platforms, I might as well compare their mobile phone platforms. Which one is more stable, Ios4, or WinMo 6.5?

If you don't like the product, don't buy it. Simple.

When you look at it, it's almost the same thing as Android. Sure you can root your phone and make it better, but take it to the carrier that covers the insurance or the warranty for your phone, say your speaker goes out and if you have it rooted or have a custom rom on it, the carrier marks it as not fixable and then you're stuck with a phone with no sound.

Five reasons? I got one.

1. People are sheep and will jump on a bandwagon to hate something without truly understanding or researching a company first. There are people on here that don't know how to root a phone, yet speak ill against Apple as if they're EngDs.

No one forces you to buy Apple, Dell, HTC, etc. products. If you don't agree with their ideologies, then go find something else.

I find that most people that hate against Apple is because they don't have one and/or can not afford one. Regardless of whether the price is justified or not. If this were taken to a more general subject, like cars. A $200,000 Aston Martin has about the same performance numbers as a Mustang GT. The problem is, it also costs five time as much. What're you thoughts while driving it, though?

"Oh no, I overpaid!" or "**** it, I've got an Aston?"

Ask Apple-haters to explain the difference between a Unix and Windows and most will not have an answer.

So to sum it up, ignorance. That's why people HATE Apple.

You did buy it, but to use the service you must abide the EULA. And if you don't abide the EULA, they can just turn off your device making sure you use it to their standards. Control issues going on there, but none the less it was in their EULA.

Rooting doesn't destroy your device. It can destroy it, but doesn't. And you don't have to do anything to your phone for it to have issues. The Palm Pre I bought worked great, one day some of the keys on the keyboard went out. If that happened to my Moment, I'd have to reset my phone back to the stock 2.1 rom to get service. The point is you chose to do it despite knowing what may or may not happen. You should be prepared for that. For rooting your phone, not offering any service and if you have problems with that phone well you're shit out of luck. In case of the old original Iphone, they bricked your phone. Besides, the phone isn't much use without any service. I don't agree with what Apple did, but they did it to make an example. As much as I hate comparing cars to phones and computers since there's nothing related between them, think of it like this. You can buy a car, but if you want to use it legally you have to have street legal parts in it. No street legal parks, no driving. No non-jailbreaking, no usage. Hell, depending where you're at if you're driving the car with parts that aren't street legal they take your car away from you. You're free to do whatever you want with it, but just like anything else you should know what can happen to it. Plus, Apple also made it so you can restore the bricked Iphones no problem.

I'm like someone mentioned earlier. I hate the prices of their desktops when I can get something very similar, at times better, for alot less retail or custom built.

I hate the fact I have to get a Mac just to run OS X. (not counting Hackingtosh...)
Unless something's changed in the last few years...I hated the fact the iPhone was on only 1 carrier.

After the antenna BS is when I started hating, disliking Apple. I wanted an iPhone the past few years until I found Android. After finding Android and that antenna campaign, I dont care about the iPhone anymore, at all. I will give them credit where's its due, but thats it.

BS. Most people don't root until they have a high degree of confidence that it WILL NOT destroy their phone. And you shouldn't have to be prepared for the company you bought it from to destroy it.

There was nothing illegal about what was done to the iPhone (as the courts have now confirmed). Your comparison is invalid.

Let's make a more valid comparison. You change out your radio, and Ford has an upgrade for your vehicle, so you take it in. While it is in the shop, they notice the new radio. You come to pick up your car, and they inform you that they smashed it in the compactor, because you changed your radio.

No non-jailbreaking, no usage. Hell, depending where you're at if you're driving the car with parts that aren't street legal they take your car away from you. You're free to do whatever you want with it, but just like anything else you should know what can happen to it. Plus, Apple also made it so you can restore the bricked Iphones no problem.

Comparing what governments can do when you break the law, with what companies you purchase from can do when they don't like what you are doing with the product you bought is invalid and deceptive.

Governments are in charge of keeping everyone safe and do what they do for that end. Apple thinks they can get away with whatever they want and will do what they want to that end.

i have to disagree with the whole article no offense to anyone but here goes:
1: i'm pretty sure the moron who wrote the artice works for pc mag. so he's biased.
2:apple's stock has done nothing but went higher scince it ipo'ed and it's still creeping to all time highs.
3:apple in fact owns more of the marketshare than 5%, it was 10 % 10 years ago.
4:imo apple is the mercedes benz of the pc world drive one for 2 weeks you wont want anything else.
5:most people hate apple because they can't afford one and are to ignorant to give linux/unix a shot.
last but not least unix/linux=no virus
the only mistake they've made in my eye is to stick with at&t for so long.

1. Did you read the article? He's not pro-PC or anti-Apple, so what bias are you talking about?
2. Where in the article was stock price mentioned? and is that really the measure of anything other than stock price?
3. Source please; at least he gave a source for his figure, and even if it's 5%, 10% or 15% his argument still stands.
4. JD Power rate Mercedes 3rd, so which PCs are the Acura & Porsche of your analogy?

I dont get the argument ppl hate it cuz they cant afford it. I cant afford a Lexus, Porche, BMW, Benz....I dont hate them tho. And out of all them I would pick the Lexus for me personally. For real if I had to choose a car it would be a Nissan or Toyota before anything.

Even if getting a PC from a retail store, PC manufacture it will probably have specs similar or better for less money. Why pay more? If its certain software that u want, need to use and its Mac only, thats different.

About unix/linux=no virus....with a good internet security setup and settings I havent had a virus, spyware in 5 years. On Windows XP....and my browsing history isnt all that vanilla either...lol

You did read the article, right? Perhaps not or you would have realized that this article is an attempt to debunk the reasons why some people "hate" Apple. It's not trying to justify irrational dislike for a corporation.

I'm going to assume you are pretty young or you would know that this is a ridiculous statement. Apple went public in 1979 with an initial offering of $27/share. It performed relatively well initially and then went flat from the mid '80s until the early '90s when John Skulley took over from Jobs and the stock soared. Unfortunately Skulley and subsequently Amelio was turning Apple into a "me-too" company and it lost almost half its value by 1997 when Jobs returned as CEO. Again in 2008-2009 when the global market crashed, Apple followed the trends with a huge drop proportional to the rest of the world. Since then the stock has performed very well, but it's not as stellar as some might think. For example, an initial $1000.00 investment in Apple would be worth about $58,000.00 today. An initial $1000.00 investment in Microsoft would be worth $360,000.00 and $1000 in Cisco would be worth $260,000.00.

Statistics are funny things. Apple owns the market of the +$1,000.00 computers but all that proves is Apple's computers cost more. As far as the market share statistics you cite, Apple has approached 10% U.S. market share but lags globally under 5%. The line becomes even fuzzier if you factor iOS and other mobile platforms in with OS X.

You'll have to publish the studies you've conducted to come to this conclusion. First, i doubt that most people hate Apple. It's more like most people are indifferent to Apple which, to Apple proponents is equivalent. Secondly, you can't compare a proprietary Unix variant with other 'nixes. For example Apache still powers over 50% of the world's HTTP servers while OS X doesn't even make the chart.

Perhaps your money would be better spent on education rather than technology or guitars. That is my opinion.

I'm not gonna lie: if the iPhone 4 comes to VZW early next year or the iPhone 5 is on VZW by June of next year, Android can lick my right nut, I'm getting the iPhone.


Like Merf mentioned above, AT&T really benefitted for a short while with the exclusivity, but Apple now realizes it may not have been the best move. There are still rumors that the exclusivity deal runs for a few more years, but... rumors. A CDMA iPhone or iPad was found in Vietnam a few months ago. It could be either, but it's hard to imagine having one on VZW and not the other.


Apple isn't GOAT, but they definitely build their computers well, which is more than what I can say for HP and Sony. And there's nothing wrong with paying a premium for a brand. It's what makes your Lexus not a Toyota and your Lincoln not a Ford.
