A lot of those quotes are from comedians or other people in the entertainment industry. Taken out of context like that, it's hard to tell if they are saying them jokingly or sarcastically.

I'm not really sure how those say anything about the Democratic party.

I'm more concerned with the politicians who clearly and intentionally speak of violence and sell fear. Those are the quotes that bother me.

I don't see the point of calling all the politicians idiots. The people elected them (or were too lazy to care who got elected) and their stupidity is just an honest reflection of the stupidity of the people they represent. You can't have a true democracy and not realize your next door neighbor Jimbo with an IQ of 5 is wholly capable of being elected president of the United States by sympathy votes alone since so many people can relate to his toothless grin.

Random suggestions to fix current Democracy in US and around the world:

1. IQ score above 100. At least masters equivalent college degree. Meritocracy based. People choose from this pool of candidates.
2. Must past a standardized test on basic knowledge questions like the location of Afghanistan on a map or who Justin Bieber is. Not knowing current events or pop culture makes you out of touch.
4. Reduce senate term to 4 years, max 2 terms. Representatives get max 4 terms. Like the president, everyone only gets 8 years.
5. Reduce age limit to 30. Max age is 60. Senile old people are the worst.
6. Qualified people from the executive branch to chair committees. No more the internet is a series of tubes.
7. 9 to 5 job, 5 days a week, with normal federal holidays. Emergency sessions allowed of course.
8. Max $100k salary or less. Living in Washington ain't cheap. Maybe even establish dorms on-site.

Most suggestions sound liberal/elitist. The best Republican presidents were intellectuals. Very sad that intelligence is despised on the right.

Politicians should be slaves to the people. They must also drop all other obligations. No conflict of interest with corporate ties. No second jobs or moonlighting. In return, they get to decide how things are run. Sounds fair.

No, it means the full features of the legislation wont be understood by the common public until the FUD being spread around about it subsides.

I don't know about you, but I read the bill at every stage of it's writing, on opencongress.org

So, if anyone said they couldn't read the bill until it passed, they are lying. This bill was passed in the most open process EVER for legislation in the United States Congress.

So, the idea it wasn't done above board, in darkened boardrooms, and rammed through congress are patent lies. It took longer to pass this bill than it did to pass the defense authorization bill prior to this bill.

As a requirement, it will never happen. But what I've wished for is one of the countless political groups to come up with a basic general knowledge test, that candidates can voluntarily take during the campaign. If you can get some buzz around it, and 1 or 2 candidates to take it, then the public pressure might force them all to take it.

Someone will take it, so they can say, "I took their test and passed, but my opponent won't even attempt it." You could start it locally, then if you build enough buzz, it could become a national thing they do all the time and becomes expected.

I'd love to see something like that, and it actually has a chance of catching on. Any lawyers in here who know how to organize a PAC or non-profit political group?

And as far as liberal versus conservative... I don't really take sides, and wish more people would quit treating politics like sporting events, where beating the other team is the only goal. I see both sides as necessary to balance each other out, similar to the checks and balances in the branches of government. They are two sides to the same coin.

If democrats ran everything, we'd turn into a bunch of wussies and would have probably been taken over by the Russians long ago. If republicans ran it all, we could end up some Christian form of Islamism. With the two sides battling it out, it keeps us pretty balanced out, and thats the way it should work.

And that, I think, is the beauty of democracy! The people in a democracy get the government they deserve.
