Or, how about making it a volunteer job? I mean, at least the senate/congress. Do they really work all day, every day? _NO_. Firefighters volunteer, politicians get rich. Ugh.I don't see the point of calling all the politicians idiots. The people elected them (or were too lazy to care who got elected) and their stupidity is just an honest reflection of the stupidity of the people they represent. You can't have a true democracy and not realize your next door neighbor Jimbo with an IQ of 5 is wholly capable of being elected president of the United States by sympathy votes alone since so many people can relate to his toothless grin.
Random suggestions to fix current Democracy in US and around the world:
1. IQ score above 100. At least masters equivalent college degree. Meritocracy based. People choose from this pool of candidates.
2. Must past a standardized test on basic knowledge questions like the location of Afghanistan on a map or who Justin Bieber is. Not knowing current events or pop culture makes you out of touch.
4. Reduce senate term to 4 years, max 2 terms. Representatives get max 4 terms. Like the president, everyone only gets 8 years.
5. Reduce age limit to 30. Max age is 60. Senile old people are the worst.
6. Qualified people from the executive branch to chair committees. No more the internet is a series of tubes.
7. 9 to 5 job, 5 days a week, with normal federal holidays. Emergency sessions allowed of course.
8. Max $100k salary or less. Living in Washington ain't cheap. Maybe even establish dorms on-site.
Most suggestions sound liberal/elitist. The best Republican presidents were intellectuals. Very sad that intelligence is despised on the right.
Politicians should be slaves to the people. They must also drop all other obligations. No conflict of interest with corporate ties. No second jobs or moonlighting. In return, they get to decide how things are run. Sounds fair.

Politicians are more slaves to lobbyists and PACS.
How can you call them slaves when they are willing?
Perhaps true, but as they say, "here is the thing:" politicians will not go to Washington unless they are voted into office. PACS and Lobbyists provide large chunks of money, but without votes, the money they give does little good.
The one thing politicians really, REALLY hate is the educated voter. When politicians learn that people are paying attentioin and voting "the bums out" when Mr. Congressman did not do what he promised and the next time, they loose their office, word will get around.
The problem is the liberal media and the web. It is too easy to get the wrong idea about a candidate from the press these days. The truth is often criticized by some; I see it daily. Either that, or people find facts too hard to believe and so they think those people spouting from the hilltop are liars.
Really?? That's news to me.
That's news to me.
I'd imagine the Jesus of the Bible with all his "love" and weak first stuff wouldn't be impressed with the lack of welfare state or decent healthcare coverage in most US states.
In Europe religious groups are one of the biggest groups pushing for more equality and a strong safety net, ironic it's the exact opposite in much of the US.
Would Jesus want all this "charity" at the tip of the Roman spear?? Me thinks not.
.... Besides, Jesus wasn't political that way, ...
What does that have to do with anything?
Besides, Jesus wasn't political that way, according to the bible. He expressed no desire for an independent Jewish state. The Romans had been relatively fai (for the time). Remember it was the Palestinian legal system who executed Jesus, Pontious didnt want to cause trouble
Also Jesus mentioned nothing about democracy or anything, just helping the weak and poor. I doubt he'd have objected to the Roman government creating a welfare state (not that that wouldve happened in a multinational empire with a GDP per capita of $700 two millenia ago).
I somehow doubt Jesus would have tolerated gov't stealing from some to provide for others. He preached kindness and charity, unless you now consider the gov't a charity.
Perhaps Jesus might disapprove of Wall Street stealing from all and may approve society, i.e. government of people, attempting to stop the stealing and get some of the money back.
So nationalized healthcare is the people attempting to stop the stealing and get some money back?? Same with buying up auto companies and backing home mortgages???? I'm not big into religion, but I somehow doubt that's what Jesus would have had in mind.
If I don't pay my taxes that support all these gov't "charities", what happens to me? The Romans with their spears show up at my door and arrest me. Is this what Jesus would approve of?
This is total nonsense, sorry.

...He only talked the salvation part, aside from advising citizens to pay taxes and go along with the system peacefully. ....
