Root .595 unrooted to .596

I am currently on the unrooted version of .595. I am unable to boot into recovery mode. What options do I have to get me to .596? Is there any way to get there without losing everything?

Gingerbreak + Droid 2 Bootstrap should get you there.

Thanks for the help, but something isn't right. I installed and ran gingerbreak, but I'm not seeing superuser. Tried loading DROID 2 bootstrap but phone wont reboot. Any additional suggestions?

this is the problem with gingerbreak it only works 50% of the time. If you don't have any luck getting it to work soon you'll have to SBF.

try pulling the battery then running Gbreak again. If it doesn't work , i hope you know how to SBF.

I do know how to sbf, but I was hoping to avoid it. I'll give the battery pull a shot and hope for the best.

fwiw SBF'ing isn't as scary as it seems. Honestly i feel the need to do it sometimes even when i don't have to just so i know i'm at a fresh starting point.

Moving this to rooted section where you'll get more help.

Sbf doesn't remove apps and settings, but I doubt you'll get from 595 to 596 w/o rooting and my understanding is that gingerbreak doesn't work with 595.

Sooo, you'll probably have to SBF back to Froyo, which will probably require formatting data to prevent bootlooping and will result in losing data.

If you're going to install a custom rom, you should really consider the rooted version so you can easily upgrade it later.

You will definitely lose the apps/data. GB data isn't compatible with froyo and a factory data reset will be required after the SBF. You will no this as soon as you SBF and are sent into a bootloop. Gingerbreak will not work on .595 afaik

Op, Your best option is to just SBF back to stock Froyo. Don't bang your head against a wall trying to work around this problem. SBF'ing and flashing the rooted/deodexed version of 596 is so easy it's not worth the trouble of trying to find a "work around".

Granted putting all your personal settings, contacts, and apps back in can take some time but it's worth it in the end to have a nice fresh, clean install.

EDIT: Oh, I almost forgot. Make sure your battery is fully charged.

Thanks for all of the advice. Looks like my best option is to SBF back to froyo and go from there. I'm sure I'll run into some more questions, but for the time being, I appreciate the help.
