Help 5Ghz Wifi?

I live in a "high wifi density" neighborhood. My wifi devices can detect 12 (or more) other 802.11bgn access points within range. The result is too much interference whenever I try to use 802.11bg/n(2.4Ghz) which gets really bad just before dinner time when some of my neighbors are probably using their microwave ovens (or their 2.4Ghz wireless phones). This led me to mostly use 802.11a/n(5Ghz band). The iFixit.com tear down showed that the Bionic uses the TI WL1285C chip which apparently also supports 802.11a(in addition to 802.11bgn, Bluetooth 3.0, FM radio, GPS). However, my Bionic can't seem to detect the 5Ghz SSID of my dual-band access point.
By the way, the iFixit tear down guide had a pleasant surprise (at least for me). Apparently, the Bionic also has a gyroscope (ST Micro AGD8 2040 S6NBF) in addition to the typical accelerometer/magnetometer(compass)/inclinometer sensors. I was under the wrong impression that it didn't have one.
