Root .621 facts (as of 3/7/2012)

There are a few things you may want to know before you decide to go to .621 land.
First, yes, there is a SBF file
Second, no, there is no way to root it once you are on it
Third, no, you can not return to a previous version once you flash it

Now that those questions are answered, a few minor issues may be dealt with.
Yes, it is possible to "carry" root to .621. You need to use OTA rootkeeper, it will retain root for you if you upgrade, but not if you SBF.
If you try to downgrade by SBFing a previous version, you will not succeed. You will get a bootloader error message and will be forced to SBF with .621, this will take away your root and I have not found a way to restore it as of yet.

How do I know these things? Easy. I wanted to try it and report my findings. I'm kinda funny that way... Now I am stuck on non-rooted .621 until someone comes up with a solution for root or downgrade. If you don't want to get stuck on non-rooted .621, either don't take the update or make sure you have rootkeeper installed before you update. Just bear in mind, if you do take it and you have rootkeeper, you will lose root if you SBF.

Thanks for the clarity and sorry you wound up screwed in the......."end". Its a sad situation vzw has chosen to leave us with as this phone comes to the end of support. I recently picked up an Acer a500 tablet and I'm having all sorts of fun with ICS and such. Too bad my phone can't play too.

To be perfectly honest, I went into this with the full knowledge that I mi
ght not be able to return. Sometimes doing so will help others and its all good. I think there will be root for this eventually, and if not, I will have a good excuse for upgrading, lol.

Yeah, I made the move too fast... screwed myself as well, but it is somewhat improved, but still has it's bloat and random reboots which tick me off to to end...
