Root 621 possible fix found

Thanks Goose. I decided it was too much hassle to try and fix the mms on 604 for I went with the 605 deodexed rom, with wifi work around and then installed the latest swype (adventure in itself) and all is good. Question....:D can I now take the OTA update to 621 (after of course backing up root with ota rootkeeper)? It prompted me for the update and I tried to let it but it failed. Doable? Aren't I a pain?:D

I'm guessing that it will always fail because it checks for the files from previous Droid X versions that the Milestone X won't have. It might be theoretically possible to put all the right files in the right places, but it's tough to tell specifically what it is looking for/why it is failing.

You are more or less correct here. You would actually have to odex it (its deodexed) the checks are for system files and odex files. Even then there is no gaurantee it will work as it may result in issues with the kernel being Milestone kernel. If you want to know what the .621 update checks for, I'll upload the updater-script to a pastebin and you can read through the code...

Warning - may make your eyes roll to the back of your head... ;)

If you really want to be on .621 there is /system nandroid that was posted on Rootzwiki. Its in that thread I linked to, just scroll down a ways. You can download that and put it in CWM backups folder on your SD card then rebuild the md5 as it details and restore. You will pretty much then be on a full .621 (besides the kernel of course)

Ok I just rooted to .621 *although my phone says .604, however my phone wants to update .605 should I update or will the update fail?

If you were on .621 and just went to all the work to root it and it's working well, you do NOT want to take the upgrade. It should fail, but I still wouldn't let it install. I don't understand why you're even seeing it.

Hmm the worse that could happen is I'd have to sfb the milestone .621/.604 again right? Damn I'm so tempted to allow it to go lol

I believe you would be sbf'ing to stock 621..then flashing/patching to 604..which would then be rootable..but not to the extent of putting any older rom's since 621 blocked that..if I remember correctly ..I patched 604 right over the ota621 version I got screwed with..if I Bork up too bad..I sbf back to 621 just for a clean start..
