hi all got to ask this as i know its a knob question but it got me wondering .

whats stopping anyone adding a 64gb card to there phone is it the phone sofwear or something else.

and internal memory of the phone where is it held on a card ?
as i did see some pics of someone taking a phone apart and it had a sd card for its memory

You can't get a 64GB SDHC card, you can only get 64GB SDXC cards, and as far as I know these are not compatible with the Desire.

Well you might not have misread it - I wouldn't put much past the eBay scammers.

Also I did read on Engadget that a 64GB microSD had been announced about a month ago, but announced and available are different things. Be good if it happened though, as it would bring the price of 32GB cards down...

As stated above, the max capacity of SDHC is 32GB.
A 64GB card is a SDXC, which is nowhere supported in Desire.

Even if it is an SDXC card is the compatibility issue a Software problem which could be fixed with custom software, or a Hardwar incompatibility issue?

And do you know if newer phones will start to use SDXC cards?

As far as I know, the hardware compatibility is not an issue.
The problems lie in drivers and file systems used. In this sense, SDXC cards like 64GB would not be using FAT32 partitions anymore, but exFAT.

I don't think we should expect any such solution soon.
