64GB SD card for Galaxy Y?

Shinsei

Lurker
Hi all, I want to purchase a 64GB SD card for my Galaxy Y. I'm confused by those available. Could anyone recommend or suggest the right type for my device please? Thanks :)

The phone officially supports up to 32GB (SDHC). This doesn't necessarily mean you can't use a 64GB (SDXC) card, but you are taking a little risk. Unfortunately, a quick search doesn't find any inf on this phone/sd combination so the risk may be yours. I put a 64GB card in my wife's E4GT (Samsung Galaxy S2 variant) which also supports up to 32GB. It didn't initially recognize the card, but after a reboot it worked like a charm. This doesn't mean you absolutely will have success. The best advice if you decide to try this is to avoid the off brand cards. Stick to the higher quality name brands (Sandisk, Patriot, Kingston, ect.) to increase your chances of success. Good luck!

According to specification it is MicroSD 32GB. I don't know what kind of card is MicroSD 32GB cause I had never seen it. I bought for my phone MicroSDHC Sandisk 16GB Class 10 (specially for android phones as label says) and the phone can randomly lost the card - for example, everything seems to work fine and when I try to open photo album or play music I get application error. And the problem is that phone just lost the card. So I try to remount the card using tools/memory menu and get info that card is empty. The only way to fix this is to pull card out from phone and put it in again. And the card works good for next time interval (1 day, 3 days, maybe more). And after that the card is lost again and again and again.
I know that phone has a bug with "memory card unexpectedly removed" but I patched this bug with official fix to OS which my phone downloaded by WIFI (with my agreed). After the patch was applied I used MicroSD 2GB for two months and never again get the "memory card unexpectedly removed" again or the card lost issue.
So I can't recommend 64GB card if my 16GB is not working properly. Maybe the supply power for card bigger than 8GB is unstable - i don't know.

EDIT: I don't know why my previous post has been duplicated - i can't fix this.
Today I have got next lost card issue. This time 16GB card was formatted in phone. If someone knows the solution or the real capacity which this phone can manage properly please let mi know.

EDIT2: I can confirm that my phone is working good with 8GB class 4 card - no unexpected removed or lost card. None of any error. Class 10 of forementioned 16GB card can be the issue.

EDIT3: Two months with 8GB card class 4 has been passed. No errors.
