Help 64GB USB Stick

You can use a transcoding program designed to copy & convert movie files to a smaller file format for your device. It's a saturated market; there are plenty of programs (free as well) that do this.

Hi guys,
Great thread I'm getting some good advice from you.
I'm having a similar problem trying to use a western digital hard drive via my note.
I had the dreaded high powered usb device message so I went out and bought a portable power device which will power my hard drive for hours which is great. I then got an unrecognised format message as the hard drive was in NTFS format. I followed the advice earlier on in the thread and formatted the hard drive to FAT32 using a 3rd party program as vista wouldn't allow it. So I was then fully powered and fully compatible.... at least I thought I was. Yet again I got the dreaded unrecognised format message.
Having read the thread thoroughly am I to understand that the note 10.1 won't recognise fat32 or NTFS or exfat? If so do I have any other options? I'm beginning to give up hope, I bought this to replace my iPad so I could be mobile and take a hard drive full of movies without having to carry a laptop and I'm basically no better off unless I buy 10 32gb pen drives.
Please help!!

The Note 10.1 supports FAT32 regardless. It's the most recognized and standard format for current and older devices. Consider it the universal file format for all devices.

exFAT is just being recognized as it's the new file format SDXC cards are supporting by default. Dependent on firmware, you may or may not have support for this newer file format.

NTFS is not recognized natively. You will need to root your device to get support for this.

Probably check the power cord to see that it's secured. If it's off by a small bit, it could possibly cause issues as it's not providing stable power to the HDD.

I have successfully usd my drive, but I used root and an app that allowed me to read NTFS, so I am not sure about FAT32. I only used USB sticks that did not need power and were FAT32.

Thanks for the advice guys but I'm a bit confused, I've formatted fat32 and my hd was powered perfectly but the tablet wouldn't recognise it, I still Got the usual format not recognised message. I'm currently 're-formAtting to exFAT but if that doesn't work I'm giving serious thought to selling the tab and buying one that will read anything. Failing that if someone can give me some advice on rooting then I'd be grateful.
Im so frustrated by all of this, Samsung have really let the side down with these money making adaptors and compatibility issue's they've done exactly what apple have been doing for years!!

Do you have a spare microSD? What you can do is the following:
1) format it to FAT32 and put it in the Note.
2) format it to exFAT and put it in the Note.
If it recognizes both formats, the firmware and Note are good. If it doesn't recognize exFAT only, than you are running older firmware. If it does not recognize any format, then you have a defective Note.

To rule out the USB OTG adapter/cable, plug-in a mouse, keyboard and/or game controller. They should be recognized as plug and play decices. If you are getting issues with it, that could be the culprit.

For the HDD plug into other units to see if you are having any issues with it.
