7.2 Magnitude earthquake in Bohol (Phillipines)

Just noticed a large yellow circle on my desktop denoting a large earthquake, so checked the news: BBC News - Deadly Philippine quake hits Bohol and Cebu

Hope all of our Phillipino members are ok. Wasn't Tastycaramel in the Phillipines? It happened nearly nine hours ago, but as I don't watch TV or listen to the radio I was unaware of it until my Catfood Earth live seismic/volcanic world map desktop showed it to me. Thankfully it was a public holiday so there were no kids in school, apparently there's been a fair bit of damage but as yet there've been only thirty reported dead.

I've been trying to confirm on FB if all of my friends near Cebu are ok. I spent 2 years in the Philippines, and they deal with a lot of natural disasters. They are super resilient.

Our world has been having too many Earthquakes , Typhoons and plane crashes lately :(

Earthquakes are unpredictable, if you wish to avoid them try to live in an area that's not prone to them. Typhoons and Hurricanes are predictable around this time of year, but if you wish to avoid them don't live in the areas where they might happen...another reason why I choose to live in Inner Mongolia.

Plane crashes will happen, but remember after every major plane crash, there's always a thorough investigation to find out why it happened and changes are made to try to ensure that those circumstances won't happen again. Same for most public transport.

China had a horrible problem with overcrowded buses crashing and many dying, especially school buses. A major change happened, all long distance and school buses are now checked by the police to make sure they're not over crowded, everyone is seated, and the driver is licensed and within his driving hours...i.e. if a bus states 47 passengers maximum, than that's what it must have, no more. And the police do come on board and do a head count.
