Help 720p HD Recording. 15fps and why.

To all those inquiring minds that are asking why the LG Esteem's 720p HD recording seems: choppy, slow, sluggish, etc.

The answer is simply this.

In order to record 30fps on 720p or 1080i you need at least 1gb of ram.

The LG Esteem has 512mb of ram.

Now you might ask. Wait. the LG Revolution records 720p just fine.

Yes, it does because the REVO has 1gb of ram.

So why didn't the LG Esteem get 1gb of ram. Simple.

Metropcs works with phone manuf. to compramise on some things. Software or hardware. Reason is it keeps the cost on the phone lower.

Dumb. Yes. But it prevents us buying the Esteem at $499+ Even if a customer gets the REVO on Verizon with a 2yr contract the phone is still $299.

So Metropcs having it at $349 with a $100 rebate = $249. They had to make a compramise somewhere, right?

So THERE is NOTHING WRONG really other than the fact 720p can't record at 30fps with only 512mb of ram. only 1gb.

Hope this clears up any users thinking there is something truly wrong with the phones (as in a problem that needs to be fixed) The only way this can be fixed is if someone know how to increase the ram to 1gb.

Otherwise this is and how the phone was made per LG and Metropcs agreement to keep the phone at a lower cost.

All in all it's still a great phone!!!! Unless you're trying to record and make a movie via your phone.

I checked a couple sites and couldnt even find the specs on the amount of RAM on the Rev

But I did find somewhere Metro changed something to lower cost. The Rev's display is a 24 bit and displays over 16 million colors and the Esteems is an 18 bit and only displays around 260,000 colors.

hah now this is good info. i did notice banding in some of my wallpapers and wondered about that. thanks for the info

Um sir, iPhone 4S has 512MB ram and records 1080p!!!!, nope not finished, iPod has lik 256 and still records 720p!, Esteem has 512mb and....well CPU just can't handle or camera is poor, probably can't catch framerates.

The camera runs in Android. Android runs completely different and uses different software and requires different requirements and more Mhz then an Iphone. Hence why an Iphone is 400 and something Mhz. Theyre 2 completely different technologies. If you are unhappy about the phone and or android simply sell it buddy and move on. Ive never heard someone come on here and then bash the phone they bought, before actually doing ANY research on it and being mis-informed and or not knowledge at all on things, come on and bash a phone. Granted this forum is for both sides of the fence. People that are happy with it and people that arent happy with it, and again good experience and bad experience. You just compare, "well this phone over here can do this but mine cant" well your right. One phone isnt going to be capable to do everything another is. And really you are comparing apples to oranges if you are comparing a $800 Superior phone to a $250 dollar (after the rebate) mid grade phone. Thats like comparing a Lexus, nice mid-grade car, to a $250,000 Bentley coupe.

Why not an Ifinity or Acura for mid-range car? and besides i think you won't convince him with simply that lol... no offense but people nowadays are close minded.. poor world.

Wel i did some looking around and what i found was that the revolution ford only have ram but it looks like it had different camer software or what ever and that is possibly why it can do better at 15 frames that is just what i think

HD video is typically shot at 24fps.

So does the Revolution.

I suspect that the higher frame rates on the Revolution are due to it using higher quality NAND flash chips that have a faster write speed than the NAND chips that are used in the Esteem. Has anyone found a way to force the camera to record to the external SD? It would be interesting to see how the video records when recording to a class 10 card.

23 .976fps to be exact :)

Hi all. I did use a new class 10 sd tested to write 20 megs per sec. and
frame rate still 15 even at 320x200 recording to external sd!!!

They say not all Esteems are created equal. I recorded a C-130 landing at KCOS about a week ago and to be honest I was getting about 25 frames during playback.
