8GB pre-installed?

Though the specs. from GSMArena or HTC itself don't say it, my Incredible S came with 8GB SD storage builtin out of which 5.7GB was shown as available. I was able to download by music collection of about 3.5GB onto it and it shows remaining 2GB+ available.

So why do people say it comes with only 1.1GB ROM storage? Are there different models in different parts of the world?

And plus, there is still scope for an additional external SD card to be installed.
 
The 8gb is a micro SD card in the only slot the phone has.

And most of the stuff I had on the card were maps for the GPS.

Actually, you are partly right. I opened the back cover and did find that there was the 8GB card already installed in the slot on the left side. But it is actually a micro SD card.
