i just brought my brand new phone galaxy s3 9 months ago the headphone jack has stopped working? will the manufacturer's warranty cover this?

Generally hardware usually has at least a one year warranty. Whether or not you have insurance through your carrier, you should be covered by the manufacturer (as you suggested) for any hardware failure.
