Help 97% cpu usage constantly

Roona

Hi!

OS monitor shows me 95%-98% cpu usage all the time. Even if I restart my phone it just goes on. Most of the load (60%-80%) is used by android system PID 1299 and the rest (10%-20%) is used by HTC sense PID 1520

Obviously something is wrong with this, right ? I think my phone runs pretty smooth, but I guess this eats my battery ! A recently restarted phone shouldnt use this much CPU all the time ?

How should I start resolving this problem ? I have been looking at the log for each application to see what they are doing. Also I have been looking at the "messages" tab on OSmonitor. The only problem is that I dont really understand all that code.

Android system log shows me mostly:

01/04/2011 12:01:41 [DEBUG]
dalvikvm(1299)
GC_EXPLICIT freed 15523 objects / 627688 bytes in 81ms

this just goes on and on refreshing every second. Only the numbers change a bit. To me this seems harmless..

My device is HTC desire HD

EDIT:

It seems the problem was HTC sense service. Like HTC has admitted the HTC sense service has problems at the moment and it seems that my phone was constantly trying to connect the HTC sense service. Turning it off put my CPU usage back to 10% !! Obviously this means good news for my battery life.

I've been having the same problem on my Droid X since Monday or Tuesday. Battery is dying very quickly, and various task managers & battery usage monitor all say "Android OS" is using up 95+% of the CPU.

Try checking to see if USB debugging is enabled as this can help too.
Its under Setting-Applications-Development-USB debugging
