Root A big soft brick

grass

Newbie
So I'm pulling my hair out.

I was on 2.2 rooted on my droid x. Attempted to install a replacement for the taskbar. The phone is stuck in a boot loop now.

I've read about 5,000 different pages saying just use RSD. It all starts by saying; plug the phone in, let the computer detect it, install the drivers..

This is where I'm stuck. The only thing I have access to is the recovery console and the big endless loop. So at no point the phone turns on to the point where the PC will detect it as a device. What step am I missing??

I've also attempted to download a 'stock rom' ? and install it as update.zip from recovery and I'm getting a verification failed message.

I had this issue before the phone was bricked as well. As with any update.zip I attempted to apply I would get this message. The file naming was correct "update.zip" on the root of the SD card.

I've done the wipe data/factory reset and wipe cache option a few times as well.

Guess I finally figured this out shortly after posting that.

Needed to manually enter boot loader before PC would detect phone as a device.

Thanks figured it would be simple after that point and not so much.

So now I have the phone in the bootloader. I have rsd lite. I have the .sbf file (VZW_A855_ESD20_QSC6085BP_C_01.3B.01P_SW_UPDATE) after I hit start the phone says "critical error 1337 510b" rsd sits and then fails.

Lost again.. :(

The status lined being returned by RSD is:
Phone[0000]: Error sending RAM download for bootloader. Device API Error: 0xE0030009 Address: 0x80500000 Command: ADDR (0xE0231009; phone connected

I keep finding things pointing me to download 'thegift' as I have done. And I'm not sure if these are two separate processes or what but I'm completely confused now.

Maybe wrong patch file? Do different versions of RSD require different ini files? Or are they all the same?

Maybe the .sbf file is wrong? What should I be looking for, if I'm trying to do 2.2 factory reset?

4.8 doesn't need a patch. I'm pretty sure you have the wrong sbf. The gift is 2.1. You need 2.2. Go to xda developers forum its in the rooted Dx stickies. Make sure its the full system sbf. Think its VZW _2.3.15....... something, something,

I have the ini from RSD 4.7 + Patch I downloaded.

Thanks I'll give that a shot. I ran into that and started to downloaded it but the download was going really slow (said 2 hours) going faster now. I downloaded the_gift.zip and had no luck. Read that it would have the sbf included and did not. Noticed this one says the_gift2 so it's worth a shot!

haha nicely put. I'm sure before the nights over i'll attempt to brick it again. Only got the phone a few weeks ago, and just got it to the point where it was about what I wanted.. now time to start over! weee!

I had no clue what I was doin when I first bricked mine. I'm such a dumbshit I had to find a computer guy to patch 4.7 for me. Can't learn to fly unless you crash. Now I kindve have a small idea of what I'm doing. Make sure you make a nandroid.... and pass along the kindness when you can. I was lucky enough to have a guy stick with my stupidity for over 12 hours. I can only hope to do the same for someone else someday.

I'm glad that maxim doesn't apply to the airline industry.

Haha...you find someone nerdy enough they'll stick with it just for the self-satisfaction of figuring it out. :D
