Root A couple root questions

1- I'm just curious if there is anything like (MOD Edit - removed) for root/android users (the app that lets you download all apps for free)

2- I'm not currently rooted and never have been...when I backup my files does it backup things like game saves (say for something like angry birds)? Then once I root I can just put all the backed up info I saved onto my computer onto my phone? How does it distinguish from what I had saved to the internal SD vs the external SD since I read some things won't run properly from the external SD?

3-I read when the new gingerbread update comes out it will block gingerbreak completely, or it is at least rumored to...then whatever I read went on to say that files that have been modded will be stuck that way...they make it seem like it's a bad thing so what type of mods are they referring to exactly since I assumed all mods are something root users would like to always keep?

4-Do you guys think it's worth it to root now with gingerbread just around the corner?

just so you know, downloading paid apps for free is considered wearz and is also not allowed to be discussed on this forum. Any discussion of noT paying for apps or how to is against the rules and will result in an infraction and possible ban. Consider this a friendly warning and reminder to read the rules.

you can backup the apps (most) but you cannot backup the data like your position in angry birds without root access. The game data is stored in the /data folder and without root cannot be accessed by backup programs. Also the internal memory/sdcard is what the phone uses for apps and data that is put on your "sdcard". If you put the data on your external sdcard, the app will not work.

There are a few mods like the webtopmod and tethering for free that will be killed by no root access, but the rest of them like side loading will be enabled, so it is no big deal yet.

As for rooting now, I would say yes only if you need to (like enabling sideloading), however if not, than. Would leave your phone alone.
