Help A couple sideloading questions

A couple questions about sideloading (assume use of the SWM):

1) If I sideload a newer version of an app already on my phone, will it be "upgraded" and user data/settings retained?

2) If I sideload an app and then later a newer version of it appears in the market, will it upgrade properly to the market version, preserving user data/setting?
