Root A few noob questions

edgey

Lurker
I rooted my Desire last night using the Unrevoked method.

Everything worked perfectly well and I now have superuser permissions.

However during the install, when I was supposed to do a backup within the Clockwork recovery........I was too busy reading my laptop and my phone automatically rebooted.

My question is basically, do I need to do a backup in CLockwork recovery before I begin attempting to flash a custom ROM?

I have installed Titanium Backup and will do a backup using that.

My most humble apologies if I sound like a complete idiot! :)

Yes, you REALLY need the backup.

Turn off phone, Hold vol down and press power.

Use vol buttons to navigate to "recovery" and press power to select.

Now you are in clockwork mod. Find the option and backup.

If you dont, and your new rom flash fails, you've lost it all.

dan when i was rooting and flashing my roms that nandroid back up thing was never there in my recovery mode, ive done back ups using my back up and titanium is that enough? just not sure why the nandroid back up option hasnt been there

Is a backup in clockwork mod the same as a nandroid backup in your sig?

SO all Id need to do is the clockwork backup and the titanium backup and im good to start flashing ROMs?

It might not be called "nandroid" but there is definitely a backup feature that is the same as nandroid in clockworkmod recovery.

Early versions of clockwork mod didn't have the backup section...might be worth checking what version you're using

2.5.0.7 is the latest.

memgem, if you got it through rom manager, just open rom manager and select "backup current rom"

Using ROM manager to get the latest clockworkmod is a bad idea for the reasons in the other thread. You can reflash recovery at any time with the latest version, but if you're already rooted you should use 3.14 and not 3.21.
