A few questions from a Mac user

Hello, I am trying to get an idea on how to sync between the Galaxy Note and a personal computer. Sales people told me that there are software for the Mac. However, as far as I know, the Note does not come with any CD for the Mac nor the PC. I also cannot find the software nor any related video on Youtube.

Q1: On the Mac, one could add/delete/edit iCal events and other stuffs like phone contacts. The info are synced automatically with the iOS device. It works the other way around too. How to do that between the Galaxy Note and the Mac? Is there a video? Something like Time Machine would be nice.

Q2: Is there a way to fully backup or clone the Galaxy Note so that if there is something wrong with the device, I don't lose the contacts, emails, calendar events, photos, videos, etc?

Q3: Where can I download the software for the Mac? Can I launch it to get an idea on how it is like before I buy the Galaxy Note?

Thanks.

Hi, I've got a Macbook pro.

I sync my calendar events with an app called SyncMate. However, tasks does not sync yet. I've been using that for months now and it's very good. I can add a meeting in the computer or in the Note and they get synced via Bluetooth.

Regarding the contacts, I've tried many thing and at the end, I gave up. I ended up syncing my contacts with google. Every thing I tried with contacts got my them messed up (photos, Whatsapp, IM info, etc). Once every week I sync my contacts from my phone to my mac, so I can access them easily from my computer.

One day I just clear up all y google contacts, I went to preferences to stop google to auto add contacts (for example, any person who write me an email) and I fusion them with google.

I don't have any special software for the mac to deal with my Note. For transferring files from/to the note, I use 'Wifi file Explorer'.

Hope it helps!

i think the software they spoke about will be samsung kies...download here
Kies Samsung

as to how good it is depends on how lucky you are lol as some find it works great, and others dont so good look on that front.

In general, is the PC version better supported? I watched the Kles Tutorial from the link you provided. The tutorial was about using the PC version of Kles.

Kies lies!

Took 20 minutes preparing and more than double that to fail completing the 'full backup'

Failed on 'Others' even when selected by itself. There's were over 8300 items in my 'Others'.

It was never so difficult on iP4 and iTunes though I never tried restoring

Like the note over iP4 but hate Kies and its inability to connect reliably and its doubt-inspiring backup.

I must admit that my experience of Kies has been positive so far. I had lots of problems with HTCSync when I was using an HTC Desire. I haven't tried to do a backup or restore though. On the odd occasion when Kies didn't recognise my Note was connected I simply re-booted the phone and all was well again.

You can use Kies Air. It is a web browser interface but works okay. I think Kies itself is the worst software I've ever come across for instability and ease of use and that's on a PC

The easiest way to do this is to sync your Mac with a google account and calendar and use that one on your Mac from now on, or an exchange account. This way, if you add an event either on your Mac or phone, it automatically syncs with the other device. A google account does go anywhere

I was told by a few person that for transferring photo and video files, I just use the flash memory card. From your replies, I just use a google account as a middle person to sync calendar, contacts, etc.

On the Mac, there are some Apps that can run on both the Mac and the iOS devices. I think Evernote can do that. Syncing is easy that way. If I do not use the stock calendar and contact that come with the Note (be it GB or ICS), are there any other good App that do a better job than Kies? I mainly use the Note as a: phone, organizer (scheduling, calendar, time management), camera, music and video players. Thanks.
