Root a few rooting questions

hey this is my first time trying to root my droid eris and i have a few questions
here they are:

i don't really want to load the android2.1 official rom onto my phone can i just flash the vinilla-droid rom right away instead of the eris official rom?

i am rooting it using a mac and a droid eris running the OTA android 2.1, should that work?
 
Not sure about the OTA question. But if you do achieve root, you should be able to flash the Vanilla ROM. I am also running Vanilla and it is the most bug free one I have used.

ok cool thanks i just rooted and now i have to flash amon's recovery onto it... i am having some troubles doing that on a mac can someone please write up some basic mac instructions for me? or get me to a place where the instructions are pre-written.
 
Sorry I have zero experience with a mac. I think there are some instructions somewhere over on XDA in the Eris forum for rooting with a mac.
 
could someone please help me with pushing the recovery images over using a mac i have no idea how to do it because all the commands are built for a windows computer...
 
after the step with the recovery image you can install any rom you want. so you do not have to use the eris21official
