A fun Job?

I'd rather just be a criminal...it is most probably safer anyway!!

You would most probably live longer as a crimnial than doing that crazy job!

Or, perhaps it is safer than we think. I would be nervous to be sure. Sometimes knowing one's limitations is important for self-preservation.
 
I cant believe how much "free" climbing is involved. It seems to contradict every health and safety law I can think of...

Scary stuff, I'm not man enough.

Which brings up a curious query: hoe many things do we assume are laws or rules that are not laws, rules, or regulations? I am sure if you fell, your family would sue.
 
i actually have a friend who does this.

i don't think it pays incredibly well, but he does okay. he mainly does it because he's been interested in radio and towers as a hobby for years. he used to build shortwave radio towers when we were in high school.

No, people definitely die doing this job. The companies that hire for this work will often try to lure those of us in the climbing community to do this kind of work. Any smart climber says no as they understand just how dangerous it really can be. While the climbing looks mundane compared to a really hard climbing route, anyone who has climbed long enough knows someone who has died not from some really epic hard move but usually something stupidly mundane that they overlooked.* If I were to do this job, I would definitely use a tether. (And I've been climbing hard for over a decade.) I've only met one group of climbers who were also tower climbers and they were a group of Romanians brought over to do that specific job. They were all young, all single and all very naive about how things work here in the states.

*I've almost joined this statistic four times when I was younger. All four times, it was something stupid that almost got me. Call it learning via the school of very, very hard knocks.
