A good day to compare your Desire to an iPhone

Oh really ? Does it have reception issues ? Not really. Other issues maybe. That's the same with all the other phones.

Why come on an Android forum and flame ?

But I am not flaming, why come to an android forum if you are clearly insecure in regards to the phone you have chosen? if we all know the desire is better, than what exactly is the point in having to keep on justifying its competence over another phone?

it is becoming increasingly apparent that the iphone is not the be-all, end-all phone that it is constantly portrayed as.

Exactly! we all know the desire is better and we all prefer it (evidently as we are in an android forum), so if we all know this why the need keep reminding our selfs? I simply fail to see the logic.

Both the iphone and the desire have faults, this forum is testament to that, so why feel the need to flame?[/QUOTE]

And again I am not flaming, I am simply trying to point out the needless, but I do apologize if it came out that way.

My mother told me never to laugh at other people's misfortunes, but didn't Steve Jobs say that Android is the OS for people who want to view porn. Sometimes people set themselves up to be laughed at when they fail.

I'm not insecure I love my Desire and i think the iphone 4 design is gorgeous but the OS4 might be flawed.
What I think is that many people who hate Apple is because of the hype surrounding iphones etc. Or maybe that they are promoting old software/hardware as new such as the video calling which they call FaceTime.

Both phones are great but till Apple comes with something more ''innovative'' I will stick with my Desire a bit longer

Holding an iPhone 4 right now, and it certainly feels extremely solid. Will unfortunately have to get a micro SIM to test out the connectivity issues and iOS4.

Both the iPhone 4 and the HTC Desire are both amazing phones, the best available in the UK at the minute in my opinion(bar the Galaxy S, which I haven't been able to try).

Exactly! this is just the sort of more mature (and Realistic) discernment and sense that I am looking for. Judging two things with a biased perspective concentrating on one's faults as though the other is perfect simply does not make any sense. This would be like an apple fan chanting out all the positives of the iphone and then start talking about the desire concentrating purely on all of the desire's faults and not only ignoring all the points on where the desire greatly exceeds, but completely ignoring all of its own problems.

Of course they both have they're problems and they are both great devices, even although I think android is better, this would not justify me putting forth biased judgments of both phones, that would be like holding me fingers blocking my ears saying aloud: la la la la desire is better desire is better desire is better. Blindly rejecting truth and forcing oneself to believe that x is better than y simply because one personally owns x is not only blind and immature, but it is simply incorrect in terms of judging two objective separate entities.

Have you all noticed how happy you are that the iphone is failing? all these smiley faces and comments of a great day to compare, it seems rather ridiculous and childish don't you think? feeling happy when another phone has problems making your phone better is a little sad if you ask me, they are just phones. Why carry on about which is better? don't get me wrong, I prefer android, and indeed it is true that all these people have been fooled by the brainwashing ability of excellent consumer marketing, but we all know it is only a well polished well advertised devise (made to seem good), but if so why keep worrying about it? and if the desire is indeed so much better why not simply let fools buy they're pig with lipstick and carry on with your desire? is it because of the subconscious insecurity and anxiety that comes with the thought that the other phone might in some ways actually be better? it would explain why you all unknowingly convince your selfs that you hate it and then knowingly willfully and consciously ignore the objective facts for a biased look that your phone is better, while completely disregarding your phone's faults and then when the other phone has faults, then you do indeed pay great attention to it and focus strongly on its faults, as of course this makes you feel better and assures you that you have the better phone, indeed a great example of love blinding the beholder.

If the desire really is better in your opinion, then prove it by not worrying about the competition and wasting your time immaturely comparing which phone is better.

I think it is time you all let go of your insecurities and just enjoy the phone YOU have!

What's the guess that this post will go completely ignored, (again we can thank blind love for that).

I think it boils down to the fact that the iPhone set a standard when it was introduced. Not a standard for quality mind you, but a standard for what is expected from a smartphone. It was set upon a pedestal of sorts, mostly by media types and marketing hype, as THE phone to beat. The whole "iPhone Killer" that we all hear so much about with the introduction of every new phone. I can only speak for myself, but I always have a short laugh when I read or hear about iPhone problems like those mentioned in this thread. With Apples marketing trying to show how perfect the thing is any problems that they run into just make me smile.

As a geek I actually want the iPhone to do well so that the lab coated folks at Apple HQ will keep dreaming up their next innovation. We have all seen what these tech wars produce in the way of innovation and I am all for that. As an Android user, however, I want to see Apple go down in flames taking their closed system and marketing hype with them. Sick and wrong? Yes, but what can you do?

Everything iPhone does it does well. Android has always done a lot more but even now it still has some rough edges.

iOS4 has been abit of a home goal for Steve though after many years of pointing out flaws in his competitors.

I'm not worrying about it believe me, never have I said to an iPhone user how much I hate Apple (Apple, not the iPhone) but surely I'm allowed a little chuckle to myself when Steve Jobs comes out and portrays the device as the best thing since sliced bread when in terms of technology its not really and can't even do a basic thing like hold a signal?

Indeed you are entitled to having a laugh at that man, after all producing a product that is so highly hyped and highly promoted and marketed (not to mention highly expected of), then at the end the product thereof not being able to be held accordingly is an immense failure for for any company and product and especially so, for a company and product with such high reputation and public expectation as that of apple's iphone. But the fact people are getting such contentment and satisfaction out of apple's failures might indeed suggest a level of insecurity and fear in regard to the competition holding some competence over one's own chosen product. If people choose to buy the pig with lipstick, then so be it, good for them, and if they enjoy it and are happy with it then than great! I'm happy for them. But just because I have a better product and they're product fails, I am not going to laugh at them and rub it in they're face by pointing out all the tremendous faults and problems they're device has, to the contrary, if anything I feel sorry for them for being fooled by and being made victims of the brainwashing of apple's expert marketing.

I laugh for one reason and one reason alone. Everything bad that happens reinforces by position.

They are an over-hyped group of self indulgents who market their products as the best on the market by telling peiople that they're the only company who this-and-that whilst attempting to discredit their competition and expecting eveyone to buy into it.

Then when that fails, sue the world until there is no one else left to buy from.

I dispise Stevie boy's agenda and would never buy anything so restricted and locked down from him, even if it had a use.

That said, Bill gates is an elitest but I don't give him money either.

I think rubbing anybody's face in it for their choice of phone would just be plain rude.

If I saw Steve in the street tomorrow would I point and laugh? Most definitely.

The thing that bugs me about apple and their fanboys is the fact they believe everything Jobs tells them. The new iphone is not magical as advertised, yellow spots, dropped calls if you hold it like a phone, white marks on the screen and a glass screen that was supposed to be super strong that appears to break very easily, seem to prove the magical part wrong.
Steve Jobs tells everyone that Android is for porn, but forgets to mention that you can still go online and access porn on the iphone.
Steve Jobs tells everyone Android is fragmented, true it is, but then forgets to mention that the ipad and the 3gs wont run true os4, meaning many apps wont work and different versions have to be created.
Android is always being bashed by the apple lovers, why cant Android fans have a little chuckle back ?

I dunno what world some of you people live in but in mine the people I know who have bought Iphones think they work quite well are happy with them and as far as I can see that arent brainwashed or under some spell of Apple!!

It seems that if you buy and Iphone you must be a complete brainwashed idiot that hangs on Apples every word.

It must be a geek thing.

My only issue with Apple fanboys is their total blindness to the strengths of other systems - but you could argue the same about Android fanboys. Trouble is there are about 3,000,000 of the former and about 3 of the latter so you can guess which one annoys more.

My main issue is with Apple. For some bizaar reason they try to encourage the view that they are the hippy, love everyone, nice guys of the industry when in fact they are a hyper aggressive, bullying company that attempts to stifle innovation in the industry that does not directly make them money. They are the same, if not worse, than the MS of the mid 90s. The hypocrisy of the general Apple fanboy that somehow claims that Apple are some sort of do-gooding company really makes me see red for some reason.

My boss updated his 3gs to the iphone 4OS and it's running like a beast. Takes milliseconds to get into the settings menu, snappy as hell, camera opens quick. No data lost. The thing fly's as it always has. This is from my personal experiece since I warned him before hand from reading this topic the other night.

I think some people are lucky and others aren't, cause there's definitely a problem, but how much so i'm not sure.

Either way stock has arrived for my Desire and I'm picking it up tomorrow... wheeeee!!

Personally I kinda feel sorry for people who have waited for iPhone 4 or the upgrade to v4 on their 3GS & found problems. Granted there are normally problems with any new release hardware/software but I know how it feels when you look forward to something & end up disappointed.
Dont really see the point in laughing at other peoples misfortunes, I didnt laugh at people who bought toyotas that went on to kill them with dodgy foot pedals so Im not gonna laugh at disappointed iPhone users either. Once the bugs are ironed out, iPhone 4 will be a sweet piece of kit. Sure I prefer my desire but I'm not gonna get all upset just because some other people prefer the iPhone. When it boils down to it we're all pretty lucky if chosing between android and apple phones is our biggest worry in life :D

It is one thing to deride and laugh and at the general consumer population, and it is another to deride and laugh at the monopolistic consumer capitalist global corporations. One is the victim, the other is the oppressive bully, if you may.

This is rather true indeed.

Thank you. This is a very realistically judged opinion not to mention a very down to Earth view. What you mentioned at the end is the key thing to note here, the simple fact that we have the fortune to choose between any such great and expensive devices outlines clearly that instead of arguing who has the better device we should simply be happy with what we choose, and should be thankful we can do so especially when there are people around the world who have not the money to even have food or shelter.

Thank you indeed Mushhushshu, much appreciated.

Hmmm, I really don't get it why so many people, that are supposed to be knowledgable in computer science, hate Apple.

I am not a "fanboy" and I don't even listen to what Mr. Jobs says on his conferences or whatever (heard one of his REALLY GREAT speeches about life and career on some usa campus, though and I really liked it and I think he is a great man).

To me, Apple is one of the biggest innovators in computer (and smartphone) industry and if it wasn't for Apple, we would still be struggling with corny Symbians and ugly windows mobile platforms. But, they have set the new standard, especially regarding GUI.

I have Apple computer(s) at home and they're the best investment in computers I have ever made.

I don't even get it how some people compare Windows XP or Ubuntu Linux to OSX. To me and probably many other OSX users, there is simply no comparison.

I don't know about Windows 7, since I have not used it. But I HOPE, Microsoft has made a better product. I don't like OSX to be without competition.

The same goes for iPhone. It's a great device and until recently had no real competition (as a smartphone). Say what you will, but this is completely true. I could not afford one, so I was stuck with Windows Mobile, which I was constantly upgrading/tweaking in order to achieve something that comes out of the box on an iPhone.
Until now.
I have bought a HTC Desire, since it was way more affordable and I must say that FINALLY, iPhone has some serious competition. I would not say it's better. In some aspects (especially ease of use), the iPhone is still quite a bit better. But for me, a technology geek, Android is now a way superior platform.

Mind, that I am not saying and I never will, that iPhone or Apple sucks. Whoever is saying that, is just plain stupid. Sorry. Maybe it does not suit someone, but Apple products are REALLY FAR from being bad...

Peace.

I love all of the technology coming out at the minute.

The more competition there is, the more innovation there will be.

I opened a computer shop in Liverpool in 1983. It was on back of the Sinclair Spectrum revolution.
Within weeks we had the usual gaggle of geeks arguing the toss over the BBC model B against the "speccy", then we had the QL vs Electron debate, then Commodore wandered onto the scene with their ""+" model, then the C16, then the C64, and it seemed like everyone in the world had to pick a side.
me?
I owned a shop and sold anything and everything and used them all...Good , bad, or indifferent.
the day I bought my first 386 PC I set on a road of ever newer Monstrous inner architecture and modular component mayhem, cranking out Ugly beige Breeze block PCs cobbled together like Frankenstein`s monster.
Then the Apples started showing up.
Sleek, sexy, showy, but refined.
Awesome machines...but very much one man`s baby..and that man didn`t want you or I having the cheek to try and open them up to tweak.
Same with the OS+ operating systems over Windows.

Nothing changes, yet everything changes.
I got a Desire 4 days ago... I could have picked a 3GS Iphone or the newer one. All my friends have Iphones, and they are sleek and lovely and sexy and alluring... BUT... they ALL still belong to BigJobs.
To summarise, The IPhones are awesome, but theyre never really yours. You rent them from Jobby, and he decides what you do with them.
I dont like being told what to do, how to do it, or when to do it...
So I chose the Desire.
I`v already found one glaring fault , but I frankly dont care.
Do I sneer and snort at my Iphone renting pals? Naaa..not at all.
What i do is, have a muck about with theirs while they marvel at my HTC Desire with its Android OS and its cavalier attitude.
6 of one..half a dozen of the other.
