a little help plz

hello everyone i got my first smartphone today ( galaxy y ) and have not changed my contract as yet so just got free txts and calls at mo, could someone answer a couple of questions please.

1. will i get charged when switching on as you seem to be connected to a couple of apps all the time and if so how do i switch this off till i upgrade or get bolt-on

2.can i take the google bar off my front page

I'm not quite sure on how things work without a contract.

Can i take the google bar off my front page.

Long press on the item and drag off the screen (a trash can should then appear at the bottom of the screen).

To avoid using Edge connection (internet) all the time, go to Settings>Wireless & Networks> Mobile networks.. and uncheck "Use Packet Data"
